Does anyone here work for the Nurse Family Partnership? If so, do you love what you do and why? I am giving floor nursing one more year and I am going into public health. After researching NFP, I KNOW this is what I was made to do! Thanks for any input!

I have a friend who works for them and she loves it. It's also something I would be interested in doing at some point (I'm an OB nurse, so it's totally right up my alley, and I love public health nursing). I am also a board-certified lactation consultant, so I would love to be able to use that.

I'm a fairly new to NFP, and I love it. I have zero complaints. I love the clients, I love the theory and ideas behind NFP, I love the way clients are viewed and treated, and I love the way the nurses are treated.

What do your duties consist of with nurse-family partnership? I'm a new grad nurse who just applied for two public health jobs, one of them being the nurse-family partnership. I got a very brief idea of what this is during Community Health, but that's about the extent of what I know.

For the best explanation, go explore their website, Maternal and Early Childhood Health Programs | Nurse Family Partnership - NFP Depending on where in the program a client is, I see them every week or every other week. We talk about issues they are having, what they need, how the pregnancy is going, I do a brief assessment and then we talk about planned topics. Each visit is 1 to 1.5 hours. We help the clients set goals and help them reach them. Right now we are very pregnancy-focused, but when the babies start arriving we will spend a lot of time on being the best parent possible.

I worked for NFP for 7 years and absolutely loved it! I took quite a pay cut to work for them. I have been an OB/L&D nurse for 16 years. I returned to the hospital because NFP is grant-based and at the time my husband was laid off and I needed the job security and higher pay at the hospital. I have been gone for 4 years now and alot of the girls still keep in touch with me. If I could afford it, I'd go back to it in a heartbeat!

Do you have any idea what a new RN makes there? I have my BS in rehabilitation and human services and also my BSN. I really want to work in that environment, but I need to pay off my school debt!!
