A new year is upon us, which always begs the question, "What will you accomplish in the year ahead". That question is a bit big and daunting, and more often than not feels like a test to see how badly we'll flub through another year of New Year's resolutions. More unrealized goals, bah hum bug!

However, the spirit of the holidays is actually quite inspiring. AND, we are each living in an era of healthcare that is truly transformative and amazing. So, let's capture this spirit, change the age old question around, sprinkle a bit of fairy dust over top and see what lies ahead.

If you were unstoppable (which, let's be honest, you truly are) and could transform one thing that you do everyday that is frustrating and prevents you from delivering patient care in the way you want, what would it be and why?

Oh...and one more question. How will you go about doing it? Because what we really need to do next is move that plan into action.

I want to improve my communication skills. Our time is so very short with our patients, that finding the way to express in a concise method and teach them what they need to know is really a challenge for me. It is a trick to find the right time, not just enough time, but the right time to approach them. Are they ready to learn?? Are they grasping the concepts?? Who will follow-up?? If there is a tool to help with this I would really like to know what it is!!! Happy Holidays and welcome a new year!!!

I would change the triple-charting I do at my job. I spend more time charting than I spend interacting with patients. I would like more time to do actual patient care.
