Meeting with a Compliance Officer

Hi~

I was asked to meet with my hospital's compliance officer today. When I asked my manager what it was about she stated she didn't know, but not to worry about it. I was getting ready to leave for the meeting when i was texted it was cancelled and we'd meet about it next week.

So now my question is--why do people meet with compliance officers? This is going to bug me all weekend!

My guess this has something to do with confidentiality , or charting. It can not be too bad if they are waiting a week to speak to you.

Perhaps you got flagged using an electronic health record? Like accessing information about a patient you were not assigned to or even your own if you are also seen there?

Speaking as the former compliance officer, the majority of the time that I would chat with front-line nursing staff, it would be about some confidentiality or privacy issue, or I was looking into a patient complaint. Rarely it would be about a billing or regulatory issue.

compliance with what?

Did anything happen with this? My friend has a meeting with one this week and she’s terrified.
