looking for different options in nursing

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi! I recently received my Practical nursing license. I am looking for different career options in the nursing profession. Can anyone give me any ideas on jobs for nurses besides the usual... Dr. offices, hospitals, and nursing homes? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

LPN might make you less marketable than ADN or BSN. Take a look on the internet for companies looking for a onsite nurse i.e. factory or business also, school nurse or community nurse are other options. Good Luck

Try the military, Army in particular...you will enter as a Sergeant, and will have the opportunity for completing your BSN courtesy of Uncle Sam. :)

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

Fairly new book out... "101 Careers in Nursing" (or something close to that). Gives background needed, type of person who does well, estimated salary and demand, etc.

Borrowed it from a friend in our hospital's education department. Costs around $40 or so. Didn't think it was worth buying, but it'll give you some ideas.

A cheaper option: review the several categories listed in the opening page of this discussion board. And use your imagination!

There is a company called Lifemasters. i don't know much about them, but I think they do disease management and use LPNs/LVNS.

Look them up on the web....

Specializes in Camp/LTC/School/Hospital.

Love this topic! No need to limit your oppertunties! I am a LPN that Has worked ,hospital speciality units, LTC, ALF, Office, etc. Have you heard of camp nursing? Go on line to http://www.campnurse.org for listings. I am a school nurse during the school year and camp nurse in the summer. I hear there are also jobs in large compainies for nurses, you may need a little experience first.
