Nurses General Nursing

Hello Allnurses!

I need some help. I have been in the nursing program for over three years ans should have been graduated by this time! The problem was I was diagnosed and treated with chemo and radiation for cancer. After getting back in class to try to finish my last two classes, the high up nurses (not the instructors) have been soooooo mean to me. I was in class for two weeks when they decided to throw me out (flunk me) from the program due to not having my CPR in on time. The truth was I had another week until clinicals (when due), but they stated it was changed and need to be in by the first class. This was devistating to me, I survived cancer, but now I cannot finish m nursing degree .

The question I pose to you all is do you know of a community college that accepts LPNS with most of there RN class complete? That was sooooooo much work and hate to have to do it all again! I do not care where the location is. Please, if you know of anything please let me know.

Thank you SO very much,

Jen

Can you not transfer your credits?

Specializes in psych, addictions, hospice, education.

I'd question whether being thrown out meant for the semester or forever. Not meeting CPR requirements (even if they're changed suddenly) doesn't necessarily mean you're out forever. It just means you can't go to the clinical sites. Once a school changes their rules, btw....faculty has to enforce them even if privately they don't agree.

Check into it before giving up.

And...what a wonderful thing that you've beaten cancer! way to go!!

I did everything I could, I am forever out of the program : (

My goodness, you have been through so much. I'm in complete admiration of your resolve and your strength as you've gone through such a personal battle.

Is there any way you could petition the school to re-enter next semester? While you're waiting on that, perhaps contact neighboring schools, explain your story and see what can be done.

I wish you all the best as you continue your journey. You're in my thoughts.

I would start researching other colleges around you that have the LPN to RN programs and go talk to admissions or advisors there. Get all your papers together that show what classes you did and how many credit hours so they can see what swtiches and what doesnt . You may have to apply to a whole new program but itll be worth it in the end when you are finally a nurse. I am so sorry you had such a tough time with school but you survived a life threatening illness that gives you a greater appreciation for life and what patients go through you would be such a wonderful nurse. You can do it!!!

Try Kent State University--Its in Ohio. Awesome Program Awesome Directors.

First of all, you have great courage and are no quitter. Take a step back and see the bigger picture, which is you have a lot to share that will help some one else. If one door closes, truly, I know from my own life, another will open. There are people who will need your support in their life. Where ever you are, there are programs that will help you. I have seen a Community College program that provides bridging for LPNs to RNs. It was specific to an arrangement for VA LPNs but I think it exists for others. Maybe you could try to look at NYS Community College programs. The one I'm thinking of was at the Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY. PLease don't get discouraged, you've come so far.

Hey Jen- Hang in there- I went from working in a hospital as an LPN, challenged and tested out of all of my nursing classes through Excelsior college. There is a three day clinical test you have to take. It's very stressing, but if you are comfortable working in a setting where you deal with IVs, NGs, Foleys, ect, as well as passing meds, it's very do-able. It would be quicker for you because you have all of your non-nursing classes done. Feel free to email me, or you can find excelsior college online. It felt great to finally have RN after my name, and now I'm back going for my BSN- Hang in there, and don't quit. It's worth it.

Thank you! Can you tell me what states accept this school, and do they transfer classes you have taken?
