I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU GETTING PAID. I BELIEVE YOU. I KNOW SOME NURSES IN CALIFORNIA WHO MADE ABOUT 90K JUST FROM WORKING REGISTRIES OR TRAVELING BUT NO MINE LIKE YOU SAID THE CASH IS OUT THERE IT IS UP TO YOU TO SEEK IT. COST OF LIVING IN CALIFORNIA IS HIGH. A NEW 3 BEDROOM HOME 2500 SQ FT WILL RUN ABOUT 200K. SO YOU NEED MAD MONEY TO LIVE THESE DAYS. :-)

Sorry I don't mean to bust into this thread again but in case you didn't see my "female salaries" thread, I'd like to try and get something through legislation that many females are being paid less than their male counterparts and shouldn't be so for those of you that are female who have kindly taken part in this thread and feel as though you are being paid less than your male equivelants, please e mail me your pay details that you have posted here and how it is you know for a fact that you are being paid less than the male. Thanks, and please continue!

I think we are all interested in this subject, especially in view of the current nursing shortage which has led to nursing duties being taken over by others-in one case EMT's are doing nursing care and giving meds under the supervision of an RN in a ICU. I have been a nurse since 1976 and while I do not know for a fact that males are paid more,I have noticed that often men are given supervisory positions earlier than females. The only study I know of to compare salaries of men and women studied engineers (typically male) with a bachelor's degree with RN's with a bachelor's degree (typically female) and found that although the starting wage was the same, the engineers were making much higher salaries in 10 years. The other factor holding nurses down is that there is a narrow window between starting salaries and the top pay in the institution. I know of nurses who have worked for the same hospital for 26 years who are still not making top pay. It can't be a question of competence or they would not still be working there,I hope.

I just graduated here in So Cal and I am making $23.00 an hour. Most new grads here start anywhere from 17.70 to 26.00 an hour. I can't believe how poorly nurses are paid across the US. No wonder no one wants to attend nursing school anymore. I really worry about the future of the nursing profession.

I would like to say I make more than most RNs. I do.
HAHA how do you like that RealNurse HAHA
Fact MOST RNs are lacking in common sence.
Fact MOST LVN know what is going on we just need a book smart
RealNurse handy to use (like a carpenter and a hammer) If you knew or saw half the stuff I have done or saw, my well-being would be taken.
I have worked with many brillant RN's but the schooling that they recieve lacks in TRUE pt care. Most of them have never turned a pt but they were good leaders

I will have to go along with kewlnurse on being outraged at your post Progeria. You can't even spell, so how can you have common SENSE? I won't even talk about your lack of diction. Consider your well being taken Progeria, I've seen most of it all, done most of it all...I've been a night nurse in the ER for 13 years, need I say more? Most of that time spent in the ER, was without the "benefit" of having an LPN or an aide to turn my patients. Believe me, my back can attest to the fact that my patients are well taken care of WITHOUT the luxury of having an LPN to do all my shit work.
Please note that despite my previous post, I do not dislike LPN's in any way, just didn't like what Progeria had to say, sorry, Wendy

we also might want to include what state...
it could be different depending on the state vs. the cost of living in that state.
just a thought.
