Help! - problems with travel contract

I am not scheduled to work - until the CEO of the hospital calls me or my recruiter.

I won't ask you the specifics of the problem encountered the other night, but I will suggest that you are in a much better place than most nurses - you have a contract. Is there anything in that contract that says you can be dumped for the incident, whatever it was? Under the contract, are you still paid even if the hospital decides it doesn't need/want to use you?

I'm sorry, I am not a travel nurse - but there are a number on the board who are who should see this.

Is it something that they would terminate one of their own employees for?

I have travelled for 8 years, and unfortunately, I have been in your position before. IMO, you very well may be terminated. Also, when I went through this, my recruiter lied to me for days, telling me that everything was fine. I did not receive my pay, and they left me with nothing. I even had to borrow money from a friend to get home. Unfortunately, IMHO, this has become the way of travel nursing, and I'm glad I don't do it anymore.

If I were you, assume the worst. Find alternate employment, per diem, etc, so you're prepared. And definitely clean out your bank account!

I have never traveled but have had many nursing friends who have, they all have a similar horror story to tell. From getting stuck 3k miles away from home, the hospital having terminated the contract for some innane reason, then having the travel agency freeze their account so they were broke.

There are lots of nice travel assignments out there I'm sure, but I think if you travel long enough you are going to have a horror story to tell. All I can suggest is keep enough your personal bank account for the trip back home. (don't put all your eggs in one basket, if you are assigned somewhere for 90 days you can also hire on at some of the local nursing agencys).

However, I had done some reading on the internet (thank goodness) about how some nurses had had their accounts raided by the travel company when they got booted from an assignment; the company claimed it was for their housing, utilities, or some such "logical" reason.....when in reality, they were basically helping themselves without permission to said nurse's bank account.

That was the first thing I did; I cleaned out my account - before someone else did!

Just a suggestion for future reference (if I'm understanding everything correctly) is that instead of emptying out your banking acccount, instead set up a 2nd account which can be used specifically for depositing your travel assignment income, then after each paycheck, transfer the check to your main account.
