Golden Girls: addiction or guilty pleasure?

Hey all,

I just wanted to know how many of you out there, (when you actually get the time) watch the Golden Girls on Lifetime. I am an addict I would say. I watch them every chance I get. They are a good way of avoiding depressing news headlines and they are better than comfort food! They keep me laughing and in relatively good shape!

I used to watch this show with Grandma when it aired the first time. Reminded her when it was on. It's a clean decent show, that had age-related jokes that she could relate to.

Besides what other show will you hear lines like:

"No Ma, it was a little girl selling Girl Scout toilets"

"Please i may not remember what it feels like, but i sure as hell remember what it looks llike!"

"Dorothy where's my heating pad? Well if this isn't it i'd like to know what other electrical appliance you're using under that blanket?"

And i watch it everyday now. That is my "me" time for the day.

I don't have cable but I do remember watching it and thoroughly enjoying it when it was on!! Enjoy!

It's great stuff, and it's as funny today as it was back in the '80s when it was first on. Another hilarious show from that era was "Designing Women"---it too was snappy, smart, and timeless (although the clothes and hair now look just a bit dated :chuckle ). It's harder to find than "Golden Girls", which is ubiquitous (it's on 6 times a day here), but both shows are worth watching. :)

Watching that show has become a family joke in my house....my husband stares at me in wonderment when I begin laughing hysterically at that show. I haven't watched it in a while (I watched it so much that I was seeing the same show about 4 times each), but I will try to pick up a show now and then. Sophia just kills me...esp when she sings this to "Thanks for the Memories.'

"Thanks for the Medicare...

For Blue Cross and Blue Shield,

For a hip that finally healed.

Don't forget prescriptions,

generics are a steal.

We thank you, so much...'

Love that show!

Gee Jkaee, I thought I was the only one who could sing that one off the top of my head! LOL

Anyway, I LOVE that show...I watched it when it was originally on and I've watched it for years on Lifetime! I don't think there's any episode that I haven't seen and I know most by heart practically. (I don't know if I'm proud or ashamed of that!) :chuckle

Not to get too serious here, but it was REALLY a groundbreaking show! They talked about a lot of things that were still taboo back in the 80s, i.e. homosexuality, HIV/AIDS, mixed race relationships, etc! Not only did they talk about it, but they did it in a way that made the viewers comfortable with it.

So, to all my fellow "Golden Girls junkies", I say....."Picture it....Scicily, 1920"! LOL

Oh, and I'm also addicted to MASH....anyone else???

I LOVE M*A*S*H!!! (wish it wasn't on so late here, on a work nite!)

M*A*S*H junkie also. The Margaret Houllihan character is what got me thinking when i was 4 years old about being a nurse.

(Let's not forget Dorothy and Sophia singing "I Got You Babe" or Blanche and Rose dirty dancing in the living room)
