Getting an LPN job in Ohio w/ record

I recently received my Ohio LPN license and landed my first nursing job not long after. I was working at a nursing home for almost a month until they let me go due to my record. I have 2 counts of petty theft from 2012 on there that had been sealed. I got all through nursing school and even a job as a home health aid with no problem. I found out afterwards that it's an Ohio law that I cannot work with the elderly or children if I have a previous theft charge. Another nursing home did not hire me because of my background as well. I am desperately trying to find a job somewhere that does not involve direct care of the elderly. Does anyone know of any information that might be helpful, it would be greatly appreciated!

I thought things that were sealed on records were unable to be seen when background checks were pulled?

My best advice would be to go see an attorney and see if there's anything you can do with this situation. Many of them will do free consultations.

It depends on the kind of background check. The type most healthcare facilities use (I think FBI?) see everything regardless of sealed/expunged, etc.

Pretty sure it is FBI. All of my clinical sites required an FBI background check on us, and that's not even for formal employment.

In Ohio they do two different background checks. BCI and FBI. Neither show expunged records. Expunged and sealed are, if I'm. It mistaken, two different things.

I should clarify. Expunged means they are erased totally. Sealed means they are no longer available to the public. FBI check would reveal a sealed conviction, but not an expunged one.
