Future Air Force Nurse

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am currently an enlisted airman and will be completing my BSN via the USAF's AECP. After graduation & boards, I will be commissioned with a 4 year commitment. Are there specific bases/medical centers to which individuals new to nursing and the nursing corps are typically assigned? Basically, as a newbie can I expect to be stationed at one of a short list of bases with large medical centers or is the field wide open?

Sorry that I can't answer any of your questions, but I can welcome you to

Hopefully some one else will be able to answer them for you............... :balloons:

Specializes in OR.

If I remember right, you can be expected to be stationed anywhere. some places are better than others that's for sure. The Air Force only has 2 major hospitals.

Can't speak for the airforce but in the USN the big base is where you go first. There is a section here for government and military nurses. Also check the forms on http://www.military.com/

There nursing internships at most of the bigger medical centers. Places like Travis in CA, Andrews in WA and good old Wilford Hall in TX. But the needs of the service always come first. :) so don't expect anything. Talk to the Chief Nurse at your nearest AF MTF and get his or her input, and try to find out who's doing AF Nurse Assignments at ARPC.
