Failed urine test because of nitrites

Hey everyone! A friend of mine just took a drug test for her first nursing job as a GN. But today she just found out that she failed the drug test because of an extremely high amount of nitrites found in her urine. They told her that the only reason the nitrites would be that high is if she drank something to cover up drug use or something along those lines. Now this girl NEVER has done any drugs. So therefore, she has no need to drink nitrite containing drinks.

Is there anything she can do?!?! Isn't this really rude of them to automatically assume she was "covering up" , instead of doing more tests?

I read on the internet that UTI';s cause nitrites in the urine,

and also hot dogs, bacon, etc, green veggies. And she eats all of these foods.

She talked to her doctor who said that he would run some tests on her to see if there is anything wrong in her body. She has also called the human resources at the hospital she was going to work at but they have not returned her call yet.

Has anyone else heard of htis happening?!? Can you do anything about it?

I'm a gurl :(

Oh my, and I had a picture of you in my head of a handsome Jewish fellow, athletic and personable, with a strong sense of values.

I thought you were about 5'9", with dark brown, straight hair, brown eyes and an aquiline nose, and a twinkle in your intelligent eyes, with a slim and athletic build.

I'm sorry your friend is having trouble. Maybe (hopefully) her doctor can shed some light on this. I don't have any advice, just good thoughts. :)

And I :lmao: at the wizzinator!!! :D

I'm a 5'6" pale, redheaded, mid-40's crotchety old lady.

I picked this name on another board several years ago after re-reading 1984. Seemed appropriate given the political climate. I keep it because anymore I don't have the memory to keep up with multiple user names and passwords :lol2:

The only problem with those kits...is the temperature.

Isn't part of the drug-screen that the urine sample received is immediately tested for temperature and if it's more than so-many degrees off from an internal body temperature, they make you pee again or they won't use it?

Just want to express my thanks for all the thanks I received on this thread. Anyone who would like to be thanked in return will need to post a comment here.

Here is some info on Nitrites in urine. I have frequent UTI's and my nitrites always run high due to this. I have NEVER used a system flush kit either.
