And this is exactly why I want to be a nurse

This is absolutely amazing! Also exactly why I hope to work in the NICU or PICU. I love the challenge that intensive care units brings, and I hope to one day be one of those nurses who will take extreme measures to save a patient's life. It has always warmed my heart at the compassion nurses show, and I'm proud to hopefully be one myself in the near future. I want to wake up everyday knowing that yes there are challenges ahead for the day, but today may be a day I can save a life, and if not, I can comfort the patients family, and let them know I care. I am still awaiting my letter as to whether I have been accepted in the nursing program, but this article has just reinforced my dream!

That sure is nice to read after a hard shift.

I loved the article and also want to be "that" nurse. Having been there as the family of a critically ill patient, it was the nurses that provided comfort in our time of need. As a consequence, I am now in a BSN program, albeit the oldest person in my class (42). There is no better feeling that taking the time to talk to a patient about their health (or lack thereof) and them having a better understanding of what is happening. My goal is to work in the CCU. Just last week, I was lucky enough to get a work-study position in the CCU at the hospital that I am doing clinicals at. It is a dream come true! I am looking at this as an investment into future employment opportunities. Work-study only pays about $8/hr but the CCU is where I want to be. The learning experience alone is worth 5X that much.

God bless the nurses who work NICU. I honestly don't think I could do it. IMO one of the hardest things a person could go through is lose a child. I can imagine miscarriages are tough but to have known your child and watch them grow and then lose them would be devastating. I don't think my heart could take witnessing that happen.
