Anyone ever accepted a job you knew was mistake? I am currently facing this...Please tell me I am not the only one...

Specializes in Clinical Documentation Specialist, LTC.

Unfortunately yes, and more than once. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment

lol!

Specializes in Emergency Department.

Yes, not in a nursing capacity, but as a Paramedic. The place was incredibly toxic. I was there about 3 weeks, just long enough for me to find a new job, resign rather abruptly, and start the new job literally 2 days later. The place was so toxic that I knew within hours that something was quite wrong and within 2 days I knew that the place was a very poor fit for me or anyone else... Only place I've ever resigned without giving the "proper" 2 week notice. Ever.

Yes, but lucky for me, it was back in the early "90"s . Nursing Shortage ! On that note, I ran with it ,and rotated junk jobs all the time.

yep...job was 40 miles away and I was lured with promises of a specialty (by the recruiter)...got there for orientation (which was to be med surge - which I understood). Orientation over, was only offered part time AND the specialty manager and training manager were completely unaware of the promise.

Hey Lucky, its funny you posted this because I feel like I'm in a similar situation currently. I am a new grad working in an understaffed LTAC which is ironic because my first job was in a SNF with 40 patients (now I ONLY have 18 LOL)..my theory is just keep putting out resumes and contacting people. Hopefully in six months something else will pan out, in the meantime bank all this as a learning experience. I know I am...wish you luck!!!

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Once. I ended up calling after my second day of orientation (third day I was going to be in my own) and quitting over the phone. I didn't even care if I got paid for orientation. I wouldn't have set foot back in that facility for twice my offered base pay. No regrets about that decision!

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.

Yes, I have. But I needed to support my husband, pay the bills and eat. It was not fun, and I didn't enjoy the work but I was able to pay the bills so it was worth it.

I put in 33 jobs applications. The first person who called I took. I lasted 4 days. Day 1 of orientation was thrown together. Day 2 the nurse kept saying "This is real world nursing" as she broke federal laws so she could have her tenth smoke break. Day 3 the nurse didn't show up. Passed meds with ZERO help. Day 4 the nurse cussed all day long. Day 5 I didn't show up. After three more weeks of unemployment, I got a really good job.
