Hi there I am a 3rd year nursing student. Our class at university have been asked to compile a debate for and against euthanasia/assisted suicide, our class has been divided into two groups and I have been placed in the group for. I have been appointed as one of the main speakers to argue our case and this is where I ask for your help. I would be very grateful if anyone can post their opinions on this matter and their reasons why? It can be for or against but because I am on the for team I would love to see if anyone agrees with it. I personally agree with some aspects of it but I am on the fence due to it being such a sensitive issue. The results from this post will be used in the debate but just the numbers of people not details etc... So opinions are very welcome thank you for reading, much appreciated.

Wouldn't it be better to get opinions of the group?

I'm a big fan of the late great Dr. Kevorkian and Lonny Shavelson who wrote
A Chosen Death.
Hi I am a 3rd year nursing student and our class has been given the task of compiling a debate on euthanasia and assisted suicide. I have been placed in team that has to argue for it and so I am asking if people can comment their opinions on this matter and state if you agree or not. Thank you.

Hey, shelbay. Besides that you are "for" it, what are your thoughts so far? Why do you think it's a sensitive topic?
Yes the group are aware of this. This was just an idea because what we have read so far have opposed it but the literature are only taking into consideration some opinions so we thought if we did this we can get a better feel for what people think about the subject. Anything to help our argument. Thanks for your comment.
Are you speaking only of euthanasia, or other end of life decisions?
Because it involves many different opinions, ethics and it involves ending someone's life. I agree with some aspects of it, I believe that people have the right to choose if they want to die but in certain circumstances eg MND, Huntington's, Terminal Cancer we would not allow our pets to suffer so why a human. However, to end one's life or to help them achieve this raises questions to me. What if they regret their decision but it's too late? how will we feel if it was to be legalised because I feel nurses will probably be the ones that will take part in this. I would worry about moral distress. To be honest I am not sure I think more in depth reading is needed. I just would like to see others opinions on the matter and why they have that view.
When my quality of life is gone, when I can no longer contribute, I'm done.
I've had at least two NDEs and I will not feel gipped one bit if the Good Lord should take me at any time.
My House is presently in order.
Our topic is euthanasia only and our argument that supports the for argument. We watched a video in class of a man who had MND and went to Switzerland and was prescribed a drink that killed him within a few minutes. They filmed his death, it was sad but I do see why people would choose this option. A life of suffering is no way to live.

I'm very much for it. I'm also very much pro-choice and pro-death penalty.
My time in the MICU further exemplified my position. There are fates worse than death. Keeping someone trached on a vent, dependent on PEG tube feedings for years on end is not any way to live. That's just one such example.

When I've had debates like this assigned for class projects, I was expected to do more serious research than just the opinions of others. I hope you're putting together some serious arguments other than the opinions of a bunch of strangers on the internet, OP. :)
