ER episode on Thursday

  1. Did anyone see the Thursday night episode of ER? It was a very well done show about a down and out alchoholic who shows up in ER with bleeding esophageal varicoses. He has alot of flashbacks about his life and a son whom is estranged from him. The nurse insisted to him she call his son. When she did, they had to stop the endoscopic procedure so he could talk to his son. His son's last words to him were "have a good life". Or something like that, I have forgotten.
He eventurally decided against life saving procedures after his kidneys failed. In the end, he died,
The er staff was terrific. It really made me realize how important it is for someone to be with a patient as he is facing death. The black physician, I forget his name, stayed with him and had tears down his cheeks as he discusses never knowing his own dad. If you missed it, I hope you can catch it in rer
uns. It is a tear jerker. If you saw it. what did you think??:

I only saw the first half of the episode as I kept falling asleep. What I did see of it was quite interesting. Ray Liotta was great.

Actually, it was a rerun from last year. I wasn't thrilled with the way they did a rectal with no regard to the pt. privacy.

Ray Liotta, on the other hand, is a terrific actor.

I believe Ray Liotta one an Emmy for this episode.
I think that it was a great episode but I have to agree the way things where done from a medical aspect was scued. They acctually showed him talking on the phone to his son with the endoscopy scope inserted. I have never seen a patient awake and alert enough to speak during this procedure much less be able to speak with the scope down their throat, LOL.

Lately ER has not been that great IMO but Thursdays episode was GREAT! I cried for most of the episode. I did not know it was a re-run. If Ray Liotta won an emmy it was DEFINATELY well deserved.

It was an awesome show, a bit of a wake-up for the doc who was w/him @ the end--he had been very critical of the 'wasted resources'.

Sometimes, Abby's character displays a lot of 'nurse' empathy, IMHO.

And Ray Liotta couldn't have done a better job!!!

LOVED it....I boo-hoo-ed through most of it. I know it's not always realistic (talking during an esophagoscopy), but it's just TV!
