This message is not to garner sympathy, but to inspire others to make contact with old friends.

I lost one. No not today, two months ago. A woman I cared for while a home care nurse. We lost touch... work, life, that whole thing. I called her house today and disconnected said the phone. Called the manager, died, she said, two months ago.

I lost a friend.

They are hard to come by.

Call your friends. I know I will.

I was at my old church the other day and saw a memorial plaque for an old friend who had died the previous March.
