I plan on going to graduate school to become a nurse midwife. And I thought it would be a good idea for my to get my certification in lactation consulting. Are there any nurses out there that are lactation consultants? If so how did you get started? I'm trying to find out how to go about getting my contact hours and where I go to take the exam. If anyone can give me any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

The LCs I know were already RNs in L&D and got their certification. They do it part time and work the floor part time.

visit: http://www.ibcle.org the official website of International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants. There you should find info on become a certified consultant. You do not have to be a nurse or licensed medical professional to do this. Doulas, and LLL people do it, too. Good luck!!!!!
