Do Nurses Get Traffic Tickets?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

We were having a discussion at work where one nurse stated she always hung her RN work ID from her rear view mirror in case she got pulled over. She said once the law enforcement officer saw that she was an RN, he/she would not ticket her. Another nurse said she got out of tickets by saying she had been called into work. Lol... she said this even worked when she was driving in the opposite direction of the hospital. A male coworker questioned whether this applied to males as well. I have not gotten pulled over (knock on wood) in the 4 years I have a nurse, so this was news to me. :redpinkheJust curious...what are your experiences with being pulled over as a nurse?

Specializes in L&D, RNC-OB, now Circulating in the Main OR.

Mr BlueRidge is a cop who wouldn't pull anyone over unless they were a known "knucklehead" or truly endangering the public. Speeding, looking at your phone, speeding up to get thru that yellow light... He's guilty of the same so he can't in good conscious write a ticket without being a hypocrite.

I've (knock on wood) never had to use the RN or cop's wife card. My lead foot knows moderation is the key.

Specializes in Cardiac, ER, Pediatrics, Corrections.

Oh boy. I have gotten out of so many tickets..even when I wasn't a nurse! I have my rosary hanging from my rear view mirror and a big smile. Has usually gotten me out of tickets! :)

Whoa, that's AWESOME

Specializes in critical care, ER,ICU, CVSURG, CCU.

i usually get out of them, working in local rural ER really helps :roflmao:

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.
Specializes in ICU/ER.

I got out of countless tickets with my paramedic license...>100mph, spectating drag races, exhibition of speed, limo tinted windows, tinted windshield, no front license plate, black tail lamps, etc.

Mind you, this was me as an immature 19 year old with a medic(not Emt) license and it got me out of a LOT of driving offenses.

I haven't used my RN license because I drive more modest cars now and don't do anything stupid.

I KNOW it will work though if you have a good enough line to use it. It's all in the presentation haha but I would say yes most of the time it works

I was pulled over on a 4 way stop due to a power outage affecting the stoplight, because I didn't fully stop. because it was so icy, instead I did a rolling stop. I was in uniform and received a ticket. On the way to work several years ago, I was pulled over for speeding and received a citation for 50 in a 35. So being a nurse, and having my badge visible didn't help.
