1. Real world nursing is different than nursing school

2. Keep an extra set of scrubs, you never know when they might come in handy

3. Remember to listen.. to patients as well as your CNAs they may teach you something

4. Nursing is lifelong learning. You're always going to learn something new, new techniques, new meds, new knowledge

1. Don't ever be afraid to question a doctor's orders, just to it respectfully. They are human and make mistakes too.

2. You are not better then your CNA. Help them clean that patient instead of demanding they do it alone.

3. Clinic nurses are just as important as hospital nurses. Treat them that way.

4. Don't lose your patience with your patient or family member. You don't know what their going through.

5. Although some days it may not feel like it, you are making a difference in someone's life.

1. When a patient tells you they're going to die soon---believe them.

2. There is no limit to human ingenuity. Especially when it comes to patients who can squiggle out of 4-points in a flash and hurl a telemetry unit at your head.

3. Never panic. It doesn't do a bit of good, and it scares the patient.

4. Never say "Oops"...for the same reason.

5. Keep 'em alive till 7:35!

2. Count yourself lucky if you get a bathroom break

3. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are for patients only

4. 12 hour shifts don't exist you will work longer

1. You don't know what you don't know.

2. Remain flexible, especially when you squat, slip, and accidentally rip your crotch.

3. Always have a handy extra pair of scrubs!

4. Trust your instincts and your knowledge when it comes to your patient's condition (even if your preceptor and other experienced nurses challenge your opinion because you've only been a nurse for a few months). Stick to your guns, you could actually be right. It could save your patient's life.

5. Best way to avoid acute kidney injury is a 1:1 water challenge with your patients. Get yourself a water when your patient asks for one, chug in the room with patient to see who drinks the most the fastest, repeat. On to the next one. (Warning, nursing judgement required. Appropriate patients only)! ;)

1. I learned you can't please everybody

2. I learned to always show good faith in what you do

3. I learned that everyone may not like you but respect goes a long way.

4. I learned you must be a team player because you never know when you may need someone to assist or relieve you when a situation arises on your floor/unit.

5. Always give your patient the benefit of doubt and listen to understand your patient's needs it can prevent a lot of mishaps.
