Caring for herpes patients during pregnancy?

Is it ok to take care of herpes patients during pregnancy? I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I was told by the charge nurse I was ok to take care of this patient so I did. But later I was told by another nurse that she was told to NOT take care of herpes patients while pregnant.

i would check with your PCP to be sure of what types of patients you should avoid taking while pregnant.

the only form of herpes i would be worried about getting from a patient during pregnancy is herpes zoster (shingles or VZV--varicella zoster virus). bc your immune system is a bit compromised during pregnancy, especially if you have never had the chicken pox or the varicella vaccine, this is the herpes you need to worry about.

think of the mode of transmission for HSV1 and HSV2 (oral herpes and gentital herpes). you are very unlikely to contract this from a patient.

i am 17 weeks pregnant and the only pts i will not care for are those with: TB, meningitis, shingles (i have had chicken pox, i just wanna be on the safe side), scabies and CMV.

And what flightnurse2b is correct; I'd only worry about shingles from the herpes family.

yes! this is my first one... after some unfortunate happenings in the past.. so i am very scared to come out and tell my friends yet, although the comments about how i've put on a little weight are getting old. i told leslie when i found out i was prego that she had grandma rights, lol. i am excited too, we are going to go furniture shopping and stuff once we find out the sex... hoping we can get a good deal somewhere at a thrift store down in palm beach or something.

our child has an LPN for a mother, an RN for a father, an RN for a grandma on one side and an ARNP for a grandma on the other side. our baby is going to be subjected to so much nursing talk at the dinner table we will probably scare them completely away from the health care field, lol.

i have gained 8 lbs and am finally not able to button my pre-pregnancy jeans. my mom said i am a freak of nature, lol.... she got me my first pair of belly band jeans last weekend.

We should have an on line cyber shower for the baby...I am so thrilled, I feel like I know you the same way I do my collagues. Be well, stay healthy and keep us posted on 'our' arrival!

Hi! I'm 17 weeks and I've been trying to find an official list (maybe CDC or something like that, but I haven't been successful) just to keep as a reference. Any ideas?
