I cannot take it anymore. I need to know what kind of activities do you mothers give to your kids to keep the occupied/busy while you are studying? I don't like to read as it is, and I have honestly motivated myself to start doing whatever it takes to pass. Not reading won't get me too far. I have just come to the conclusion that my success depends upon me and I can't blame anyone but myself if I fail because I am too lazy to do something as simple as read. Now saying all of that, please mothers, give me some good suggestions me keep my 5 year old and my 19 month old busy while I study. All of the interruptions and the he hit me's and the I am bored and the pick me up's have played out with me. Pleas help. I am at the end of the ropes with this one.:uhoh21:

:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle I needed that laugh. Renewals will be my best friend. After checking the movie out 3 times in a row, I can buy it for $1.00. How cool is that?

That's very cool! I need to check out the library more often it seems!

Boy, do I feel your pain!! When I would take a class and not be able to study, I would teach my son what I was trying to learn.

1988, he was 6 and I was taking my ACLS classes. I taught him the heart, the rhythms, the drugs, the order of running a code, etc...little did I know how much it helped me to learn.

I had to take him to class with me one day..I gave him a video game to play and headphones, explained to the teacher that, today, we were a package deal, but he would behave or I would leave..she lectured, next thing you know, his little hand is up. (I'm embarassed-"put your hand down")--'no, I'd like to hear what he wants', he asks a question about what she had been talking about...'OK, this kid is 6 and asks what the rest of you should have asked'--(there's one in every class)--the class wanted to shoot me.

2 months later, his Dad was working days, I was working nights, SSSOOO, Dad would drop son off at the hospital on his way to work..me and the son would go home 10 minutes later.....son was at the desk (I know, I know..but times were different then)....administrator walks by, "Oh, do we have a new employee?", just at that time, son yells, "MOMMY!! BED 3 IS IN V-TACH!!!",...the alarms go off seconds later, and we're coding her..she survived...the Administror, later, still astounded...looks at the kid.."So, How'd you know that?????" 'Because my Mommy's a nurse and she taught me'

It worked...

For the little one, I suggest videos, something special that they can only watch when you're studying..

Otherwise, there's duct tape---just kidding, just kidding!!!

Good luck, ley us know how it works out!!!

Your lil boy calling out the v-tach was just too cuuute... way to go Mom!!!!!

My daughter was 3.5 years old when I graduated. She knew every disney movie by heart. At the age of 1 she would cry when I picked her up at daycare, she knew it meant know fun

I like the story about v-tach. . .

I took my kids to college classes with me too. One time the professor asked my son to come down to the front and act out something he wanted to get across about DNA. It was very cool. My other son (he was 11) was allowed to go into anatomy lab, disection theatre.

Just today, as my dh, my 6 year old and I were out in the woods looking for choke cherries, I read my heart rhythm study book out loud and showed my son pictures of the heart.

I sat in the bathtub in the evening with my books and papers spread along the edge of the tub, and told my ex and the kids NOT to knock on the door unless the house was on fire or someone was hurt. The only other time I studied was on the weekend if my ex took the kids somewhere. I would grab my books and start studying.

BTW, maybe you could do this another way. If you take notes in class, study those faithfully. I once had a professor say that if he took the time to write something on the board (or mention it in his lecture) you could bet that we would see it on a test. He also said that, when reading, to read the subheadings within the chapter, any italicized words, and be able to answer the questions at the end of the chapter. He said that, if you knew the definitions and had some concept of what the subheadings were about, and could answer the questions, then you should do fine on tests. I used his method throughout school, and rarely made anything less than an A.

It sure beat reading things word for word!

Years ago when my two were little (3 and a newborn), I turned on Barney. Yes, I know everybody hates him, but my 3 year old loved him and would sit without moving the entire time he was on. I recorded a bunch of his programs and replayed them whenever I needed to study.

God bless Barney!!:lol2:

i just could not stand it anymore . i have a very fussy baby that wants to be held all the time. well all my classes are online and it makes it real hard to type papers or do discussion board assignments while holding a jumping 7 month old. i put her in daycare 3 days a week and it is the best thing i ever did for myself... i don't care if it does cost me $400 a month . i get some peace and my homework gets done.

I studied after 9 pm when the little one was in bed. Then as she got older I paid for extra daycare time on a certain day so that I could study. Now I go through goodwill periodically and clean up on the .49 cent books and 3 dollar movies and pull out new ones every week. (don't give it to them all at once) My daughter is 6 now and is a lot better about the study time thing.

Today was much better. I took some of the advice that was given to me here and let me say I am feeling so relieved. I went to the library today and got 4 movies for the kids. It is working. I have had so much time to study today it is unreal. I want to cry telling you all this because this advice has really motivated me. I am able to concentrate and really get studying done. You guys are my hero's.:blushkiss

What type of movies do you all suggest? It is not my 5 year old I am particularly worried about. That girl of mine is something else. My son will sit down and watch anything that I put in for him to watch, bit she won't. The only way she will sit still is if I am in the room with her. I absolutely don't get a break from her. I do like the advice that was given about going to bed when the kids go and get up and study. I will have to give that a try and see how it goes.

On top of all of that, I missed a great deal of classes last week because we all had the stomach flu that was going around town and spreading like wildfire. Imagine that!!! All I want to do is get them in some kind routine that works best for all of us. Thank you all for all of this wonderful advice.

Charlotte's web, the starwberry shortcake series, home on the range, emperor's new groove, I bought the muppet show on dvd, and I tape a lot of the animal planet programs for my little one now (but beware that some are scary for your tot). I can be a bit strict about what my daugther watches so just be careful of PG movies as they can have some inappropriate language and themes at times. Get a few movies with lots of music and dancing so the kids can move along with the characters on the show. Dora and Diego worked wonders for the 3-4 age for my child. get arts and crafts and create a box just for them. lots of playdoh, kid safe cookie cutters, yarn, stickers, stamps and paper (some of this is for the older kid obviously). Even with all of this, you still will probably need to study after they are in bed.

I actually put on Baby einstein so my 2 year old can watch something a little appropriate and my 4 year old fortunately will still watch it without an argument. Trust me the hardest part of going to school is the guilt I have when I am studying and not playing with my kids. I have a wonderful husband though who comes home from work at 6 pm and takes them out to play for two hours with the neighbor children. It is a good two hours of study time for me too. It will all be worth it in the end and hopefully it will teach my children the importance of working hard to get what you want. ;)
