Just wondering how does your facility find staff for late call ins and errors in scheduling. What are your facility's procedures? Please help.

We either get asked to stay and work a double, get mandated, or they work us short. I have no idea if they have to be in a certain mood to decide which to pick but it changes like a fart in the wind!

I worked a small LTC. We had an automatic policy - DOUBLE TIME if someone stayed/came in. No questions asked. No preauthorization. No problems (ie 'mistakes') with payroll. No baloney with 'overtime in excess of 40 hours..." stipulations. Just DOUBLE TIME. It WORKED!
Policy extended to include anyone who came in extra if there was less than 24 hours notice for the extra coverage. We didn't use agency and the policy was not abused. Some staff really liked to do the extra time and kept an overnite bag in the car trunk. I, myself, even came in a couple times - yeah, it was a loooong stretch, but I appreciated the extra $$$. And it was only rarely.
We got a new administrator who abolished the practice - felt we were 'cheating' the system to get ourselves the extra $! Staff stopped volunteering; staffing became problematic; morale went down the toilet, even our survey results were affected by the diminished morale.
All for a few bucks...

What service do you use for the text message? What does it say? How do they know you are available to work and that you qualify to work that unit? Just wondering. Thanks.

My unit texts about openings sometimes. Each person lists their phone number & if it is ok to text when hired. The charge nurse will sometimes text "hi it's _______. We ave a sick call for ____ shift. If you are able to help out, call charge phone at 555-5555. Thanks!
