Thank you all for replying. I am turning 49 in a month, I know most nurses are middle age I am right there. I have an additional concern of back problems, I have worked many areas including tele, med/surg, surgery, peds and home health. I tried all of them because of my interest in the area, I enjoyed surgery but am not physically able to handle it anymore, I tried home health and it is not very back friendly. I am just stuck in a rut and am seeking all options and opinions. Thanks
OK - that makes your question clearer. "Middle age" is just too vague isn't it?
I know many younger nurses who also have back pain & mobility problems... and some "extremely tenured" nurses who are hale and hearty (e.g., very energetic 79 YO house supervisor that works nights.& runs rings around younger colleagues - srsly)

I am curious what other nurses think and are experiencing. What do you think is the best geographic area for middle age nurses to work in? What is the best specialty area for a middle age nurse to work in?
