As of the first of this year, the only people allowed in scrubs where i work are people providing direct care to pts. This means unit sec's, medical records, housekeeping, etc. are no longer allowed scrubs (yes!).

The next move has been to ban 'stretchy' (lack of better description, NOT stretch pants) knit pants and shirts from what's defined as "uniform". According to the rationale for this, the stretch clothing snags on things, looks like sweats, etc.

So here's the poll. Do you wear either yourself? Do you think they should be banned. Can't post two separate polls on the same thread, so maybe vote yes or no on the ban, then maybe post if you wear this stuff or not.

And the knit pants i'm refering to are not from any uniform shop. They're typically at places like Wal-Mart.

Why on earth would we want to ban knits?

You can buy knit in uniform shop...ii always run an iron on them as soon as i remove from dryer..i find esp the pants more comfortable...i don't see what the problem would be in a person wearing any type of uniform that is functional, clean and size appropriate...

any kind of uniform can be worn lacking in these three important things...maybe some people don't have enough to do if all they have to do is check out the clothes of the co-worker next to them

I've never had a choice; we had to wear scrubs. Personally, I love the fact that I essentially get to work in pjs and sneakers - for the kind of work that we do, at least we can be comfy! I do however like to wear long-sleeve knits under my scrub tops in the winter; as long as they are a solid, matching color they are allowed. I agree however with the previous posts that talk about being neat and clean looking. I think it is pretty unprofessional to come to work looking like you just pulled your clothes out of the laundry basket. Ah well, I'm all for scrubs and am happy to stick with them, but I don't see why knits should have to be banned; especially since there are obviously so many people out there who love them!
