Bachelor in science, now in ADN program

River, can I ask why you are going for your ADN instead of your BSN if you already have your BS? I just graduated from an ADN program and am certainly not knocking it, but if you already have the bachelor's, would it be any longer to get your BSN than your ADN?

River, I have a BA English, ADN. I've been an RN for17 years now. I've had to swallow my pride a few times while being counciled on the "proper way to chart". But most of the experiences have been positive. Gary

I currently have 2 Bachelors: Sports Medicine and Mathematics. I start an ADN program either this fall or spring, depending on positions available. (I have to have night/weekend classes.)

Laura,

The reason why I am going for an ADN is because there is no bridge program in my state for people with another degree.

Plus at this point in my career, the clinical knowledge is more important to me that the BSN/ADN considerations. I have taken all the statistic, public health and leadership classes at the master level.

I have a B.S. in Business Management, and I will be going to school this fall to get my ADN. Hopefully, this will be a good combination! :)

Did you have to take prereq all over, or were you able to transfer the one you had in you bachelor?

Are there no bridge programs in your area or have you even looked into it. this is where you already have a degree and can Get your BSN in one year.

Hi River :) I have a BS in Sociology and an ADN, which I completed in December. It was a shorter program and was cheaper than a BSN. I still have a bachelor's degree which will allow me to take a job that requires a BS degree. Also, I can go directly to a MS Nursing program with an extra class, bypassing BSN degree.

Ha! I did a degree in anthropology. Then a two year diploma at one of the very last of the hospital schools - I've never looked back.

I have a BA and an MS in Community Health, and am doing an evening ADN program now. BSN programs are no good for me because they require that you go full-time, and I need to work. In addition, they are more expensive and have more prereq's. I think that with the RN license and an MS in Health, I should do fine. I am considering going on to an NP program afterwards, and the local college accepts students with a degree in something other than nursing. I am always heartened to hear about others who had previous degrees and are going back for the nursing license! I hope we're doing the right thing!
