awesome nurse pt ratios

Nurses General Nursing

Does anyone have awesome nurse pt ratios. At my PRN job the staffing is great. It is med-surg. although it is a small hospital so we have swing, peds, and hospice on medsurg. We don't have an IV team or pharmacy after 1800. We have a nurse and an aid for every 6 pts, but if census is close to 6pts per nurse they won't low census anyone. Last time I worked we had 12 pts, 3 nurses 3 CNA's and a unit secretary. We also have a house supervisor to help out dismisals, transfers, and any problems we have. Since it is such a small hospital the house supervisor helps out quite a bit, becasue there are only a couple of units and the med-surg is the biggest.

I work peds and we can have a max of 1:5, they try to do anywhere from 1:3-1:5

I also work adult med-surg. We have 1:4-1:5 on days. 1:5-1:6 on nights

I think for both facilities the ratios are good.

i work in ICUs, we have mostly 2 patients for every 1 nurse and 1:1 for sick patients, cvvhd, balloon pumps.. If they are really really sick we give 2 nurses for the 1 patient.

When i worked step down in PA we would have 8-12 patients each with a cna for every 15 patients.

I work onc/surg/tele and we have 4-5 on days, 5-6 on nights, with one aide per 6 pts on days, up to 10 at night. Needless to say, pt's get bathed! It's great!

I work psych so the ratios typically run quite a bit different but staffing for us most days is really good; for 24 patients we typically have anywhere between 2-3 nurses as well as 5 techs and a unit clerk. Most days we also have another nurse whose primary job is admissions and so the majority of our admission paperwork is taken care of before the patient hits the floor. There are days when we have multiple patients looking to take "center stage" and it can get chaotic but for the most part I feel very blessed to have the staff I do. :yeah:
