I've seen a lot of of FNP programs that require a BSN or even a bachelors in a another field, but I'm looking for an online direct entry ADN to MSN (FNP). Anyone know of, or have any experience with such a program?

Thanks!

I'm not aware of any all online ones, but there are some out there that are RN->MSN but you earn your BSN along the way. You may not ever earn a masters without a bachelors equivalent.

If someone says there is...i'm going to be really upset, lol. it will mean i have been torturing myself doing this the long way apparently.

Frontier Nursing University (their new name as of July - previously Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing). They offer MSNs in FNP, and they have a direct RN to MSN program (it does require one year of bridge coursework prior to taking the master's courses). I don't think there are any programs that award an MSN without at least doing the equivalent work of a bachelor's degree.

However, I recommend getting a BSN first. There are many inexpensive programs that require maybe a year of work, which can be cheaper and will give you a degree in nearly the same amount of time it would take you to do the bridge coursework. Check out or Fort Hays State University - both totally online.

There is a college in my area the offers a RN (ASN) to MSN program. You only have to take 3 bridge classes. You do not earn your BSN at any time during this program. This is one of the best nursing colleges in the area. There are programs out there.

I appreciate all of your comments. My situation is a little bit unique which would behoove me to find a program that is either direct entry, or one that ties up the BSN in the NP program.

I'm curious what is unique about your situation? If getting a BSN first would not take more time or more money than doing a direct entry RN-MSN program, why would that not be a feasible option? Just curious. :)

There are a lot of MSN programs programs out there that allow you to go straight from ADN to MSN (with emphasis in education, informatics, leadership .etc), but NP programs are harder to find I've found.

Fair question! Has to do with my employer's tuition reimbursement program.

Very intriguing program, especially since I would be able to transfer the bulk of the bridge credits. Thanks for posting.
