has anyone participated / completed / or know someone that has been in the alternate entry msn program????

its a program targeted for people who has a 4 year college degree in a non-nursing major in which the student will obtain its rn licensure as well as a master's in nursing.

i'm really thinking about applying to this program and i would like to discuss pros and cons with those who are familiar with the program. thanks!

There are TONS of post here about Directy-entry Masters programs! We could write a how-to/FAQ guide from all the threads on allnurses.

I start one in May of 2007 in Ohio.

I'm starting my final year in a similar program, so feel free to PM me with any questions - but I second what sunnyjohn says, you should definitely also check out the extensive discussions here on the same topic (looking in the graduate student nurse page will help). and good luck with whatever you choose!

I have worked with quite a few nurses who have completed the program. They jump into a big world with their master's degree without a lot of experience as a nurse. They become great nurses, but it does take time to gain experience on a regular med/surg or equivalent floor before taking a clinical nurse specialist position. Just my :twocents:
