LIARS!

Do you agree? How do you feel about being a nurse?

Who said "it will be fun????"

But seriously - I feel good about being a nurse and nursing. Of course not everything is always hunky dory and there were days when I got home and was totally worn out, tired, overwhelmed and done. But there are also a lot of days I go home and I am happy, I achieved something, I did a great job, I love what I am doing. And yes, there is also some fun...

No one ever told me nursing would be fun.

It's called "work" for a reason. Doesn't mean it can't be fulfilling, but I don't go to work to have fun.

I feel good about it but I didn't start in this environment. Though the claims of workloads etc are all the same.

I remember starting in HH 27 years ago and hearing the nurses complain about the ridiculous amount of paperwork. Our nurse's note consisted of a 1/2 sheet for VS and our simple teaching/dressing change. We saw patients at a high frequency in dense territories, so not a lot of driving, 5 revisits/day were thought to be a lot.

We were making 45k/year, back in the late 80's, all days, not too many weekends. And still everyone was stressed out and complaining. I was a youngster back then working with nurses my age now, baffles me.

Wonder what it'll look like 20 hrs from now

I never thought that it would be "fun." I hoped for a good job with decent pay, benefits, job security, etc. Compared to other jobs, I suppose that this is correct. However it seems a lot has changed during my career as a nurse. I cannot say that I like what I see sometimes. As I get older, I become fearful of keeping and finding employment, as it seems to be a young persons world. Employers want work as cheaply as they can get it. They do not care how much experience one has. It is sad. This is a field where you are helping people, and saving lives, and yet it all comes down to money. I hate that healthcare is a business. It does not seem right.

Yrs, not hrs LOL

I hated it!!! until I left the hospital, now I love it :). I'm kinda bored now but I'll take bored over being overstressed and overworked with little pay! I did not like what I was seeing in the hospital, and the situations upper management puts you in to save a buck.
