Forensic Nursing Education in VA?

Specialties Forensic

Published

Hello allnurses community!

I'm interested in forensic nursing education/jobs options, especially in the northern Virginia area. I've begun searching for master's and certificate programs online and forensic nurse requirements and I'm getting confused; I've noticed many specialties such as S.A.N.E, death investigators, nurse coroners, etc (depending on state). My search of the VA BON was not helpful either. I'm concerned about finding an accredited educational program. Can anyone share their experience in getting the appropriate education and starting a job (especially in the VA/northern VA area)?

Thank you for your time,

You will find the above links as well as others in this forum.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

Inova Fairfax has an excellent SANE program, as does Winchester Medical Center. I would seek to speak to those program heads and see if they have resources for you. Start with the emergency departments as a resource point.
