USF 2014 applicants?

U.S.A. Florida

Just wondering if there are any USF applicants out there? I had a couple questions :)

I think I found you on there but my name is Anna Crain.. Find me!

Hello, I am so glad I found this thread.

I am thinking about applying for the 2nd degree sequence at USF for summer 15'. I currently hold a bachelors from UCF, and was planning to do the 2 -year program at HCC however I have decided that going for the accelerated program despite being so expensive would be well worth it.

Can anyone please explain how USF determines the OVERALL GPA? I am so confused by this, would the overall GPA be , for my bachelor's degree? Or is it every single credit hour I have earned throughout, including the pre-req grades for the nursing program?

Thank you so much! Congratulations to those that made the program!!!!!

Hi! There are 3 considerations in your application. The college looks at your overall GPA, meaning the GPA earned from all of your undergraduate courses. They also consider your prerequisite GPA, so the grades you earned in A&P, Microbiology, Stats, etc. The other thing they consider is a 2 page personal statement detailing your motivations, plans for success, and prior volunteer, work, and leadership experience. Good luck!

Nahobbs,

Merci!! Thank you so much for information.

Hello everyone. I am interested in applying to the USF BSN program. When I got my information they never said anything about and upper or lower division. Can someone explain this to me and also do they still offer it? I have an AA and am currently a LPN so I would love an option where it only takes me a year or two to finish.

Upper division= two years, for those with or without a bachelor's in another field. Accelerated is for those with a bachelor's in another field. There's no "lower" division.

I'm sorry to hear that. It is sad to hear that someone with a passion for nursing as strong as yours won't be joining the program. :( I would not take the blow too seriously; I have it understood that the admissions committee had to make some serious cuts. They could not accept as many students as in previous years; consequently, seats were very limited.

I might be wrong, but I think there is more emphasis on the personal essay than meets the eye. Before submitting my essay, I had a few of my science professors look at my essay and give me their honest feedback. I found it extremely helpful. I do not know if you have considered taking this approach, but having a fresh set of eyes can change everything!!

Yes, the professors told us our essays were vital to getting in. They're looking for passionate people who want to be professionals, i.e. get master's, do research, etc. Bedside and beyond nurses.

I'm curious, how many spots do they offer now? I was accepted in summer '13, and we had 30-ish ABSN and about 80 or so upper-divisions, so about 120 overall. It whittled down to about 100 at graduation. I know they're excited about being able to do more simulation in the lab because FL changed the law to say that 50% of clinical time can be in simulations now (I SO don't agree with that, but clinical sites are so limited, I guess I understand). The lab is so small, I wonder if that's why they cut back the # of students? One of my only complaints about USF was always the lack of lab time. I really needed more IV practice on that mannequin, my patients can tell you that!
