RN pay scale in FL

U.S.A. Florida

Hey all .. I'm new to Florida and work as an RN in the Panhandle and the pay rate here seems pretty bad. I took a pay cut to move here and I had experience too in surgery dept. Is this area generally low paying or is basically most of FL not paying much for nurses? And it is def not cheap to live here either. I know they have nice beaches here.. Too bad I can't use ocean or sand to pay the bills. Any thoughts?

I'll be making about 22 per hour as a new grad. Not sure how good that is compared to other areas in Florida or other states but from reading these forums I always anticipated Florida pay rates to be pretty low.

Hey tenyearsgone..I can honestly say you will be making more than I make now with 3 years experience. I make significantly less..it's interesting getting different answers. Again didn't know if it was just me or if FL normally ran low.

North Florida is significantly lower pay than Central and South Florida.

I live in central Florida and have been working for about three months as an RN in hospice. Starting pay was $25.66/Hr. They have asked me to be the charge RN indefinitely but when I asked for more money they said they couldn't pay me anymore. Not sure what to do about taking the charge position. Guess it would look good on resume but why take on the added hassle of being responsible for the whole unit for the same pay I was getting to just take care of my 3-4 patients. Any thoughts??

I make 23 as a new grad in Tampa area. Where in the panhandle? I interviewed for a few jobs up there and the pay was around 24 in pensacola.

no way...more responsibility with less pay....no way no way no way

Panhandle is the lowest in Florida from what I've seen.. I moved from fort Myers, where you made close to $30/hr to start.. In Pensacola in 2013 I started at $21.64/hr, but I think it's closer to $23/hr now. Charge nurses should make more.. But still less than $30/hr here!

Where are you working that you have 3-4 patients? I carry 6 almost all the time..
