that's great Danish!!!!

I agree that it does save tons of time.

I waited a while- but because Keiser is not accredited here in miami, I was very concerned attending that school.

Plus I did not do well in the NET test when it was required for miami dade college. So..... i did not want to take that test again for Keiser.

i did go to a university of the same price for a BSN--- but ended up failing one class advanced A&P---- luckily I was up for BCC in broward for the fall semester and ended up being a success there.

No loans for me!!

and now the hospital will pay for my BSN program!!

I hate loans!!!!!

and you are right- bad nurses can come from any school. I heard at my hospital that there was a nurse who put the EKG leads on a patient over the hospital gown! and then the nurse that was telling me the story said "and I think she went to BCC too!"

so you are right. we can't judge a school from a few bad apples.

but I did not think that LPN schools had waiting lists.... and with a 3.9 GPA you could of gotten into a BSN program or an ADN RN program without a problem

Nope, no waiting list for the LPN program at Keiser in St. Petersburg. (The only LPN programs that have waiting near there were the public (PTEC) programs. I did have to wait for the USF BSN program and especially long for SPC ADN program ( at the time, it was 4 semesters). I chose the faster route. I believe in the long run, I will spend the same amount of time credit wise for my BSN, but I will have it sooner. And, in the meantime, I am working and profecting my skills :)

I had no idea the waiting lists were that bad at universities!!

I thought that at universities it's either you are in or out.

here in miami that is how they are.

The only waiting list I knew, was at bcc, and manatee CC-- so I applied to both and waited 3 semesters.

At NOVA southeastern university- there was no wait but very $$$$

I belive in that saying big time "you get what you pay for!"

but in the long run- we all get to be RNs right??

Thats the goal

Nova is a great school though. Dont they have a CRNA program there too?

they do have a CRNA program--

it's the 8th largest private university in the country-- and have options for lots of careers.

such as PA ( you get your masters in 2 years). comparing mdc program's PA 2 years gets you an AS.

Now that I am an RN-- public university looks good to me! LOL!

Hi this question is for DANISH, i am considering trying the LPN program at Keiser, Since galen did not work out for me, i really really really want to become a nurse and am obsessed about it , i am just not a wonderfull test taker.

My question for you about Keiser career college is, How many students are there in 1 class, are their classes small or large like Galen?

How many classes do you have per quarter? I s it 1 class at a time or more classes at the same time?

What is their attendance policy like? Can u fail any class?

What is the passing grade you will have to score?

Wich classes did you start out with?

How many students made it to graduation?

Sorry for the many question, i just want to get the info from a student, i dont know if i can trust the advisors.

Thank you so much in advance Danish!

my question for you about keiser career college is, how many students are there in 1 class, are their classes small or large like galen? we started with 26 and had 16 at pinning.

how many classes do you have per quarter? i s it 1 class at a time or more classes at the same time?there are 3 semesters. you stay with the same class the whole way through and take everything at once. for ex, we started with med terminology (that was 2 weeks long) then started anatomy. i believe we did each body system at a time. you have at least one quiz a week and tests are every few weeks. you will get a syllabus in the beginning and they pretty much stick to the schedule.

what is their attendance policy like? can u fail any class? yes you can fail for attendance. i believe you can miss 2 class days and any clinical day has to be made up. everyone has life issues that come up, but clinicals are mandatory by state. we had more hours than necessary, so those who had not missed any days got to take the last 2 days of clinical off and study for the final.

what is the passing grade you will have to score? 75% overall. you can fail some tests and still pass by your overall grade. they will tell you in advance which ones you can not fail (i.e. dosage calculations has to be passed with an 80% or you cannot pass meds in clinical until you retake it and pass). also, the ati tests are used and the national average is what you have to get to pass. it changes all the time, but it was ususally around 70%.

wich classes did you start out with? like i said, we started with a 2 week intro into med terminology. our clinicals started at the nursing homes and we learned cna skills and therapeutic communication to begin with.

how many students made it to graduation? our class had 16. we were the 4 or 5th nursing class at that campus and we were the first class to have someone fail the nclex. so...we had 15 pass boards. their passing rate is just below 100%

sorry for the many question, i just want to get the info from a student, i dont know if i can trust the advisors. i understand completely. i have to say, keiser gave the most clinical experience i have seen for lpn students. each clinical group is made up of roughly 10-12 students and you will be doing everything for your pts that you legally can do. if that hospital allows you to cath, then you will cath. you will administer all meds for your pt, the cna's are told they do not need to do vitals, ets for your pts unless you ask. by the end, you may have up to 3 pts by yourself (if you feel competent and have proven yourself) i feel like they had me completely ready to start working as an lpn and take a full set of pts. my first job out of nursing school was at palms of pasadena and we had 6pts ususally. i feel like i was completely ready to handle it.

if you have more questions, ask to speak to lisa stern, the nursing director. she is a "shoot from the hip" kind of lady. she wont bs you to get you in the program. i got the feeling she doesnt want people in that arent compeltely serious and committed. the advisors are more like salesmen and try to pressure you.

good luck!

wow , every body system at one time? Thats great!! At Galen we had to learn sometimes 5 in 2 weeks. So you stay in class from 8pm-4? or can u get out ealier sometimes?

Thank you for the info

We were there 8a-3:30p We rarely got out early. If it was going to be an early day, you usually had advance notice.

Semester 2 I think it was 2 class days and 2 clinical days (6:30-3 for clinicals) and Semester 3 was 3 clinical days and 1 class day. Man that class day was rough :) We ALWAYS had a quiz or test and sometimes 2.

I feel like they have a good cirriculum. I took A&P I at SPC in Seminole and A&P II at USF in Tampa and I think Keiser's A&P was taught pretty much the same way.

We had a student who transferred into our class 2nd semester after leaving Galen (I have no idea why or how) and she said the two colleges were very similar.

Wow.... that is great, cause A&P can be pretty hard if you are new to it, So how long did you get to study that 1 body system? we only got 2 weeks to study about 4 or 5.....craaaaaazy! a mile of flashcards. Its good that you are on your way to be an RN, i am jelous in a good way, i still have a long way to go!!

It was one system per week. Sometimes two. For ex - we had cardiac, one week, test the following Monday. That day, start renal, test the following Mon. It wasnt bad. Some people had trouble, but I think thats the case anywhere.

Thanks. Im sure you'll be in the same boat soon :)
