Jobs that pay the least in Florida?

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I know here in Florida that the pay is not good.:crying2: However, when you are job hunting and read the nursing job ads some of them say "We pay competitive rates" So I guess I will start. I saw an ad today that said they are looking for RN's or LPN's to work at Lifesouth Blood Center. They offered a salary of $10-$12 an hour. I saw a new agency for home care offering an LPN $12.50 an hour. (Sorry I forgot the name of the new agency) Maxim home health pay LPN's $15 an hour and RN's $16 an hour. Anyone else, know of other jobs that pay the least in Florida? I figure that at least we can be honest with each other since some of these companies that "offer competitive wages" are not being honest. Thanks.;)

Specializes in Med/Surg.
(There are lots of places besides FL that never (or only rarely) get snow. :))

Where are these amazing places you speak of? LOL I can set a goal for myself once I get a few years of experience under my belt.

this is all very discouraging...

Tampa, brooksville, Orlando, Dayton, st pete...

I am going to point out a bit of the flip side.....

My brother (ASN-RN) with ~5 yrs exp earned over $100K last year. WOW! Right? He actually looked at moving here to FL and was so appalled at the low wages that he wouldn't even consider it.

Hmmmm

$100K - fed tax (income, SSN, MC) - NYS income tax - NYC income tax..... Wonder what his net was? (NMB so I didn't ask...)

He paid $3K/mo for a 2 br SMALL apartment. He left his car with my nephew on LI because it was $700+/mo to park a car. Last time I checked (in 1984) sales tax in NYC was 8.25%. He was a smoker. His cigarettes cost $10 a PACK when I was paying $25/carton! Everything costs so much more.

When you boil it down, it isn't how much you earn but what your DISPOSABLE income is. It is also....free time and what you can do with it....What you VALUE! I *hate* driving in ice and snow, scraping windows, being cold, shoveling snow.... I *hate* spending an hour or more a day in bumper to bumper traffic! (Sometimes I have to slow down.....but 295 does NOT become a parking lot every day like the highways in NYC/LI, DFW, LA, SF!)

Just to add: I have lived in NY for the past 10 years; and was it worth it? Hell NO! The pay may seem attractive, but the crap load of taxes and the expenence is ridiculous. Making 6 figures in NY is like making a CNA's salary in FL, with overtime. Making $20/hr as an LPN is like making $10 in NY. When I frist moved to NY; the subway toll was $1.50 one-way and over the years they raised it to now $2.50 one-way! The school system, crime, miserable hogs, road rage beast, the smell, the cons and hustlers can make someone slit their wrist. I am so ready to leave NY for good!

Wow...and I thought the tolls got bad! When I left NY, it was still $0.75 per ride!

Avante here in FL continues to hire new LPNs at $24hr (RNs at $28). I worked at a rehabilitation facility in Ocala, it was a lot of work, and those 8 hour shifts tended to last more like 10 with all the charting. But, the pay was great, and I learned alot. I moved to MA and only made $22 at a similar Kindred facility.

PSA also offers $15 an hour for LPN's in private duty home care in my area. I am leaving private duty and am going back to LTC. I am glad to hear that Avante is paying LPN'S $24 an hour. LTC is super stressful but I don't care. I just want a steady paycheck and not have to worry as to how long my private duty patient will be in the hospital.
