I'm trying to get accepted into St Petersburg College. I know I need a great GPA and all the pre-recs first. Once you have that how long did it take you to get in? Anyone been accepted into the program recently?

omg...I just applied and mine is a 3.81. If i don't in, I'm going to cry. I applied last year at PHCC and had a 3.5 plus the highest score at the school on the NET test and I still didn't get in....ahhhh!!! I don't want to go to LPN school and work at a nursing home.

LPN school is an excellent foundation for RN school. I"m cruising through SPC because of it. Being an LPN does not mean you are "doomed" to work only in LTC. My first job after graduation from LPN school was at a hospital on a tele floor, and most of my SPC classmates work at hospitals.

I agree you are not doomed to work in LTC, however I will say that hospitals are moving away from LPN (note: all children's does not hire LPNS) and moving towards RN. And for 6 mos extra, just do the RN if you can. I too was at wits end and was actually slotted to start LPN school with PTEC when I was accepted to SPC. Just keep on keeping on and you'll get there.

Congrats lucky! Note: don't buy those BS SPC polos, just buy white polos at walmart and get the patches and iron them onto your polos. Save yourself some cash where you can. And also don't buy all your books at once, SPC is infamous for changing editions in the middle of your 4 semesters and then you're an edition behind. Good luck!

Hi Pinkster.

I started SPC's BSN online this fall.

Having already gotten by ADN from SPC in 2007, admissions had everything needed for my app, and I was accepted without a problem.

The online program is intense, and success has everything to do with keeping up with the course work and assignments. Classes are 4-6 weeks each, and the program lasts for 18 months. Scholarship monies are available, so make sure u put in a scholarship app ea semester. I'm very PRO SPC. I felt their ADN program adequately prepared me to pass NCLEX, and I've had some wonderful instructors. Speaking of, ALL of the BSN instructors haved PhDs

Is it possible to do the SPC RN to BSN program totally online (except clinicals) without physically being in the state of Florida? Looking into their program but don't live there locally. I'm still in my information gathering stage. :wink2:

I'm pretty sure that is a YES! Anything typically you'd do in class, you can submit via video.

Yes, I'm currently is SPC's online program, and there's students from other states in my class, so yes, it's totally online. They do require us to go into our communities to attend a professional nursing meet, as well as to do leadership and family practicums. The courses are accelerated, and quite demanding, so you must be prepared to devote time to course work. The most important thing is to keep up with the work throughout the week, don't wait until the last minute.

OKAY. I started this post. It's up to 5 pages, but so far no one has answered my question , hahahaha :) so I'll rephrase it.

For the ASN program, how many times did you have to apply before you were accepted into the program? Once twice, three times before you were accepted?

Thanks :)

I got in after the first time I applied for Fall, but.....................the first letter I got said that I was on the alternate list, so if people dropped out, I would get that spot, but.............I was #50 so I saw no hope. All I could do was wait it out. While I waited I applied for Spring, just in case. I got a letter accepting me into that semester and then 2 weeks before Fall started I got a call saying that a spot was available for me. I had all pre-reqs completed & well in all, I think my Micro class didn't count b/c I took it iver the summer, the grade posted too late- that's was why I was an alternate...I think. Apparently everyone else had all required pre-reqs. Basically if you have all your pre-reqs done and did well, your in. Good luck to you!!!! I am done with my 1st year on Monday!

Congrats to you!!! Thank you for the info, so good to know. i didn't know that i could apply for the 2nd session when I have already applied for this next session. Good to know. I thought if I did that, then they would think I no longer wanted to get in for this next coming up session.

I am doing micro this summer, so maybeeeee I can get in at the fall session.

I have all A's except in speech, I received a C in speech (hahaha, but I took it 15 years ago) anyway with that C, my GPA is a 3.7

3.7 sounds like a pretty competitive GPA, but is speech included in the GPA they use? I thought they only used there required prerqs to calculate GPA. Don't remember if speech was one them or not. I know AP I & II for sure & Mirco, but can't remember what else. Very well could be. I have pushed a lot of information into my head this past year, so I am sure some other things have gotten pushed out :) I did Micro over the summer too- it was ok. The semester before me and the one before that had students who had not taken Mirco & gotten in- I know this because there were student who had just passed levels II & III in my summer Mirco class, so you can get in without it & take it later. It happens. Just depends on what all those other people do that apply with you. I thought "#50!!! Theres no way I'm getting in!" That meant that 50 people had to drop for me to get a spot.....but I got it. I hope you get in!!!

yes speech sure is one of the ones they count toward the nursing point system thing. yuck, hahaha
