Hiring of New Grads

I have been applying at every hospital in SW Florida, Naples and Fort Myers. I currently live in Michigan, but am looking for a job in Florida since my boyfriend is starting his career there. I have had no luck in the application process, I feel I submit the application and minutes later have a rejection e-mail. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to apply as a new grad? What areas I would have the best chance of being hired? Really, any advice would be helpful! Thanks!

Have you gotten your FL license and are you ready for culture shock lol I made the same move in reverse due to low pay and no raises with increasing cost of living. If you don't currently hold a Florida license start there and it might make it a bit easier, the job market is tight in the larger areas so maybe look into branching out to smaller areas, is your boyfriend willing to commute? Look into Desoto and Highlands counties you could live in the Middle and both commute a little

I had the same thing happen to me for awhile, I'd submit and application and get a "no thanks" response in less than 3 hours. Turns out my application/resume/cover letter did not contain enough key phrases. Some places have computer systems that scan your info and if you don't have a certain amount of key terms it discards you automatically. Had to tweak my info a few times before my applications started going through. Have you tried the Palm Beach area? Not sure how far south you are looking..good luck!

I'm not, I actually graduated a month ago and applied to take my boards in michigan. It worries me to go ahead and get licensed there when the job market is so limited. He would be willing to commute, we both just want to be in the same place!

Keywords Are Key To Getting Your Online Resume Read â€" Donna Cardillo, RN this goes over a few things you could mention. I try and look at the job description and use words or phrases out of it in my cover letter. Action words are always good. Try incorporating the hospitals mission statement.

The new grad market is saturated in the Ft Myers area due to several nurses school in the area so not having your license in any state is probably your biggest road block. You should call the FL BON and ask about transferring vs taking boards for a FL license. I know when I looked into going from FL to MI the first time the MI BON said I couldn't transfer for 2 years, it may have changed but you want to get all your ducks in the right row

Are you a BSN? Get your license and apply to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. They're magnet and always looking for BSNs.

Here's my advice.I plan on moving to next year. after you do your NCLEX, contact the FNA or FLorida Nursing Board (they've been advising me on what to do) and apply for you Florida LicenSE. u will MOST LIKELY not hear from companies unless u have a florida license. but DO NOT GIVE UP. ure a new grad. u wont hear from people right away, but u will get something. be courageous and pray.
