Hillsborough Community College-Fall 2014

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone,

So my dream since I can remember has been to become a nurse; however, it seems as if it will never happen. I recently finished my pre-requisite courses to apply to the fall semester of the HCC nursing program. While I did not get any C's I made mostly B's :blink:earning A's in two classes and one lab. I realize this is not good enough since it puts my GPA at around a 3.38. Since I did not fail any of my classes, I don't believe I will be able to retake them. Is there any possible way to retake them? Or any way to increase my GPA since they mainly look at the pre-requisite courses? If not, what other options do I have for becoming a nurse? If anyone is out there who could offer any help it would be greatly appreciated. I will submit my application regardless but I don't have any high hopes of getting accepted, if there is anyway to increase my chances I would be so grateful to find out!

Oh yup if its Wednesdays you'll be at TGH

I how your finals went well today. I met two other nursing students today that are walking Saturday. . They were buying their nursing hats :)

Can anyone from Mrs Powell class tell me how she goes about assigning clinicals. I live 5 minutes from one of the hospitals and I really would like to be assigned to that particular hospital.

Just got accepted to HCC's fall 2015 program! Any advice? From scrubs to teachers to lab scheduling, I'll take anything!

Congrats, I would say if u want to save money then 1 pair of pants but buy multiple tops especially if your a coffee drinker and they are white. As for your scope just remember u get what you pay for, think of it as "I will be using this for my career, not just for school" I have Mrs Coleman in the 1-4 class, she is awesome. She is very knowledgeable and I learned so much. Enjoy your summer and if your in a relationship just make sure your partner understands that this isn't easy. there will be times where you will be frustrated but just consider your partners feelings also. Make like one day a week where u are all about family. Don't become a robot because u will burn yourself out. The book package I got was online and hard copies. E-book was good for on the go, at the doctors office, waiting in line at the store. Just to get a few moments of reading. And plus u have the option to pull up all your highlights to review at the same time. It may be lame to some, but invest in a rolling bookbag for class days. I would never want my back to carry my books more my laptop on top of it. Another tip, go online and buy a used drug guide. I got mine used on Amazon for 3 dollars and it is I'm great condition. It's one edition older. But the only down side is new meds won't be listed. But honestly I have only had to look on the internet for one med this semester. Don't be nervous and enjoy your first semester.

I have a serious question... Anyone who took Mrs Powell class, I need advice on how to study for her test, should I focus more on her power points and follow with the book. I need any advice for this second semester... And was ur second semester like the first, just a lot of medicine administration or did u get more hands on

@silvach24 sorry it took me forever I haven't been on here in a while and I just so happened to check my email and saw your message. I sent you an email specifically on how to pass Powell's class. It was made by a guy that is ahead of our class (np4 now) it actually really helps and you actually have to do what it says if you want to pass...goodluck!

If you have her for clinical which I did have her she likes to ask A LOT of questions. It could be in front of a patient, nurse, etc. Its mostly on meds and procedure steps I would say is the most she asks about. You can't say "I don't know" you have to find the answer and get back to her. It helped me learn so don't be intimidated. Half the questions we didn't know lol

And when I say med questions, it can be how it works, what's it used for, one thing to look out for with the med etc etc...

Like the email I sent you....deff read ahead and read the book! Practice nclex styled questions with the subject your learning. Don't forget to share with ur class that email! ") let me know if you have any other questions. I'll check the website more often

Your first exam is on fluid and electrolytes. Majority fails but you can do it!

Specializes in VA, Ortho, Med/Surg.

Wait, isn't that UT across from Al Lopez?
