FSCJ Summer 2013 Nursing Students

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi everyone, well I'm starting this convo so we all can get an idea of who, what, when, and where with FSCJ. Good topics would include testing materials, the average ranking of points for the upcoming term, and any other useful ideas that will help us all get into to this crazy hard nursing program! :) So, lets see if we can help each other out....and it's kinda fun to talk about nursing as well :)

I didn't get in. :(. So I tried to register for BSC2086C to retake it bc I got a C an also SYG2000 bc I got a B. I want to raise my points to reapply but apparently it is a state law that once you pass a class you can never retake it. I am beyond livid. I'm literally crying bc it is totally unfair that I took all my classes at a university and not FSCJ. If I did go to FSCJ I would have had straight As. Does anyone know how I can retake some classes?

I'm very sorry about the news. I have talked to a few people that have been through the same situation and I was told that you can't retake a class that you already passed. I would try to talk to an advisor and see what they say, it couldn't hurt. The only thing else you might be able to do is retake the Nat exam. I had to apply three times and take the Nat exam twice. I had to get my points up because of a couple of c's that I had on my transcript. Again, I'm very sorry.

Kristen - I think you should contact St. Johns River CC. I just read on their page that they will allow you to take the same course up to three times in order to improve you GPA. The third time you pay out of state tuition rates. It at least deserves a phone call to find out if your situation applies.

Here is a link to their web site: SJR STATE COUNSELING

And their OP counseling office: Orange Park Campus (904) 276-6855

I spoke with the secretary and she said you need to talk with a counselor. It sounds like it may be possible but the counselor was not in to confirm.

This is taken directly from the UNF frequently asked questions section. Obviously they wouldn't encourage you to retake B/C courses in Florida if it were against the law. Keep looking around until you find a school that will allow you to do this. Maybe even an online school. I'm rootin' for ya

Can I retake prerequisites? If I retake prerequisites, which attempt is considered?

Applicants with multiple low grades (i.e. many C’s or B-‘s) are highly encouraged to retake

prerequisite courses in order to attempt strengthening this competitive factor. The student should

speak with his/her home institution regarding the feasibility of retaking “passing” grades. In some

instances, the student might find it necessary to enroll at a school different from his/her home

institution in order to retake a course because some schools do not allow students to repeat

courses that they passed.

Hello Everyone! My sons pediatrician offered to give me all of the shots at his cost. Does anyone know if we have to get the titers even if we were to just get the vaccine instead? He told me that he cant do the titers - but he could just give me those shots and save me a lot of money, and it wont do me any harm. Thanks!

I would call and ask the nursing department at fscj. It specifically says to attach the titers but they may accept the boosters in place.

I missed it by 2pts, but I was thinking of doing the LPN program. How much longer does it take to finish the both the LPN and bridge to the RN? I'm going to try retaking the NAT just to reapply for fall but the LPN may be an option too.

I'm so sorry my dear :( I have had the same problem. I tried to retake a class that I took from FsCJ (got a C), and they wouldn't let me. I also tried at nearby community colleges, and they wouldn't let me. BUT If I'm correct, I think you can retake at UNF? I'm not totally positive tho. I think UNF wants you to retake any classes with less than a B?? But it's m

Heres my story....I applied with 189 pts.... I knew that would not be enough so I also applied to the LPN and to my surprise I got accepted. It was the best option for me because I didn't want to wait until next spring to start the RN..( they changed the gosh darn app deadlines)... ugh. So, at least il be able to do the bridge program while working as a super cool LPN ;) I've got the LPN app if you'd like a copy? :)

So, maybe look into the LPN? Its only 11 months and It's based off of total GPA, work experience and TABE test scores. The TABE test is similar to the TEAS. Once your finished with the program you can bridge to RN. :)

Is this your first time applying? If so, apply again for the Fall semester? Maybe retake the PSBNAT? But it's very frustrating, I know :( good luck my dear with whatever you do k :)

How long does the LPN take and then the bridge to RN? I was thinking about doing the same thing, I missed it by 2 pts.

Hi there :)

Well the LPN takes 11 months (3 semesters). Once you've got the LPN, you can apply to bridge program. The RN bridge program takes 3semesters as well...Which is 1 semester less than regular track. :) BUT, the application requirements are different. One, is to have worked as an LPN for at least six months, second, its only available in the summer semester. So, for me il have at least a year off before going back...if I choose bridge. Or you could get in for the regular track RN :)

If you missed it by only 2 points....try again for the fall! You may even get a call to come in this semester :D

What was the point cut off?

You definitely NEED the titers. And if they come back negative then you will need to get the vaccine and REPEAT the titers.

Thank you all sooooooo much for the information. I really appreciate it. I was only 3.08 points from the cutoff. I had a 183.96 and the cutoff was 187.04. If I just had a B in A&P2 instead of a C I would have gotten in. I don't mind paying UNF rates as I already have my AA, BSH, and MPH from there. I'm used to the crazy tuition. I'll look every possible option. I would retake the NAT but I feel like that's just an exam that is pointless to study for. I felt like I was taking a personality test for a job. As for the TEAS, studying definitely helped me. I was considering applying for fall at FSCJ and then also fall at SJRCC. I seriously can't believe there is a state law that limits you from bettering yourself. Especially when you are willing to fork over money to these state colleges. I would love to know their reasoning behind why they made such a rule to begin with.

Will do! Thanks Lucy:) I wish you were going days!
