Does 20.82 sound like a comparable rate for new graduates in the Orlando area at Florida Hospital( Winnie Palmer). Is this salary sufficient for the cost of living in the area?

I live near Tampa (used to live in Orlando, but dont know the rates). That sounds about right though. FL Hospital Zephyrhills pays around the same thing for a new grad, but they offer a great rate of $35/hr if you decline benefits.

Yes, that sounds right. I am not a nurse yet (in last year of nursing school), but I work in Florida Hospital Orlando campus as a tech and that is the going rate for new grads in our hospital. So, there it is. Cost of living has gotten a little high but if you have a roommate or a spouse you can be ok.

I talked to my mom (she's a recruiter for Orlando Health) and thats right for a variable full-time position. If you work pool your base rate of pay goes up significantly along with your shift differentials because you don't qualify for benefits.

Also, just an FYI Winnie Palmer is part of Orlando Health (formerly Orlando Regional), not Florida Hospital!

What do you mean by "variable rate"? Do you know the shift differentials? I would like to work 7p-7a weekends if possible.

variable-full time is the term given to full-time employees who work 12-hour shifts since they work 36 hours work weeks instead of 40 hours like a monday-friday 9-5 positon. she said the shift differentials and the base pay rates are going up sept. 14. i think she said night rate is like $9 or $10 an hour and weekends is like $4.00 or something around that. so for a night weekend you'll be making about $35/hour or so!

There is a VA hospital in Orlando - Orlando VA Medical Center.

No sign on bonus or relocation assitance right now, but every once a a while they have a sign on bonus, or at leat they used to. There is tuition assistance, you have to sign a 1-2 year contract with them depending on how much money they give you.

There is a VA clinicl in Orlando, and they are building a large VA hospital there as well, and there is a large VA hospital in Tampa! They do offer tuition assitance.

The drive from Tampa to Orlando isn't too bad! I work in Orlando and live outside of Tampa so I drive there aout 3 days a week or so! I love the hospital I work at so when I moved to Tampa the drie was MORE than worth it to me! Plus I work nights so traffic is always going the opposite direction I am!! It takes me about an hour and 15 miutes from my driveway to the hospital parking garage!
