FCCJ/ Fall 2008/Pre-nursing - Pre-studying???

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello all! I am currently finishing up my pre-reqs & plan on applying in May, for the Fall of '08 nursing program @ FCCJ. My hope is to get some of the other Fall '08 people out there to start posting, so we can start "greasing the wheels", so to speak.

:welcome:

I also had a question for all of you currently going through the program. From what I've read, on all the bulletins from FCCJ students, we will be "self-learning" the Medical Terminology & the Dosage stuff, in addition to the formal classes. I am considering starting to study this now & was wanting some feedback. Is this a good idea to get a jump on things, or will I just be spinning my wheels?

Any tips & suggestions would be most appreciated.

I know that the Fall of "08 seems like a long way off, but it will be here before we know it... good luck & best wishes to all!

P.S. Recently took the NAT & got a 96.44; not the best, but plan on re-taking again after the 90 days pass... anyone else taken it recently?

Fall 2008 deadline is coming up soon!!! Get those apps in!! :)

The deadline is HERE!! (June 1st)

:yeah:

Now the wait begins, and it's already killing me. :banghead: I have a feeling that I'll be running to the mailbox EVERY DAY until the letter actually gets here. I have to find something to take my mind off of the wait so I don't bite all of my nails off.

I can totally relate! I have found solice in "Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls"... Little Debbie - isn't that an oxymoron? I'm afraid Little Debbie is making my rear not so little.

I've got to find another way of dealing with my anxiousness...

oh yea!! FUDGE ROUNDS on this end :)

this is my first term in the nursing program (5th week...I think?!?...who can keep up?) If I could go back the only thing I would have done before school would be going over my basic anatomy...There are a lot of little quizes on basic anatomy that I let escape my brain and am having to re-learn...

As far as the med term and the dosage calc...not hard at all...just don't wait to get your med term book...there are a lot of words and if you wait it could be overwhelming :D

Good luck and believe what people say that it is a lot of work...I wouldn't say it's the most difficult information to understand it's just a lot of work in every class every week...but with that said...I LOVE IT!!

**Good Luck**

I agree with the above...we just had out IV calc today, and I think I got a 100 because it was so easy...the only test people have had to retake so far is the medical term. so I would def. look at that...I got a 90 which is a "B" for nursing school...I think everyone passed the simulations in my section and the other section I am with so I would not be too worried about those things...

The only thing is, it is a lot of information to consume like the above post said....you have to remember a lot of tiny details and things you will probably just do anyways as a nurse, you have to know how to describe them and how to do them exactly right...

The anatomy and physiology is def. something to look over as well...especially for health assessment...I don't think they are too bad...I have passed every one of them...but some people think they can catch you off guard...which they really do because you do not know what to study....make sure you get a good pharmacology teacher so you will know what you really have to know...and be prepared to not really have a life!! =)

Could you tell me what med term book to get? I don't really plan on going crazy with preparation or anything, but it gives me something to focus on other than when(and if) I get an acceptance letter. Besides I am also driving to TX in July and it would be nice to have something to do. :D

In the bookstore at north campus they have a lil flip book called Mosby's Medical Terminology.

can you tell me what edition of this book would apply to the nursing program please>>>>>>>
