Hi! This is a thread for anyone applying for August 2012 class at Broward College for the generic nursing track. I deferred my seat so I will be starting in August. I haven't decided if I want to go to central or south yet.. I'm super excited about starting in August! If I could help anyone with anything feel free to ask! :)

Hello

I actually can't think of any difference between the terms. I graduated from BC at north

campus and started in January. One particular reason may be during the nursing

orientation, after receiving a brief explanation of the program and the kind of time and

dedication is needed, some may opt to deferred their seat till the next term to get prepared. Also, may meanwhile use the time to take the course they would need to take afterwards such as the humanities requirements which would be a lighter load to deal with, if they feel that

their lives is not suitable for the nursing program at that particular time. Another reason could be that they may be getting advise from someone and want a particular course or their break to fall at a certain time, as you may know summer classes are more intense due to

shorter time frame. However, personally I would not advised such move because

it is very common that you may have to drop a course or even remediate which would put you off course with the original class group and sets your plan off.

The nursing program is a very tough/fast pace and requires alot of hard work and more, more of your time and you will find yourself neglecting alot of things in your life. To summarize, you will eat/breath you books and need much prayer. But it is possible. I'm a horrible test taker and I failed proccess II and come back to passing the rest of the course and graduated/passed my nclex 1st try. So I believe it can be done. You must come prepare and make the adjustment necessary. Go for it and good luck:up:.

So much to read!!!! Oh em gee!!! Glad I can read in advance.

ikr! i'm kinda in the dark here. with orientation after classes start i have no idea if we wear scrubs or polo shirts or whatever we want on the 24th. what do we need to bring?

someone in the program gave me a reading list for nur1020 so i can share. from the fundamentals text we are required to read chapters : introduction to nursing 1.1 relevant sections of ch. 1, 2, 3, 6, hygiene 4.3, medical asepsis 2.4, vital signs 2.2 ch. 39, 34,vital signs 2.2 (cont.) ch. 32,health assessment 2.3 ch. 33 , this will be the material we will be required to know for test 1. it always helps(at least me) to read ahead then again when we do it in class once you know what to stress on. the required materials for this class are :

1. bc generic module packet nur 12102. three (100-question) scantrons (turn in to instructor at the 2nd class meeting)

3. potter, p. & perry, a. fundamentals of nursing. (8th ed.). st. louis: mosby.

4. perry, p. & potter, p. clinical nursing skills & techniques. (8th ed.). st. louis: mosby.

So the fundamentals book we need for south is 8th Ed? Cause in the book list I got from the nursing depart it said 7th Ed needed..

Uhm not sure, the list I had was from jan and has 7th ed but since i was told when I was accepted in may and a north campus lecturer said that in fall they would be using the newer edition, I assumed that all campuses would be using the 8th plus the south campus bookstore list has the 8th ed.

North campus has there own website with everything needed.south has to wait till we get emails.I am not buying any type of books till I know exactly wat I need
