Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

Hi!!! Im an alum of the BC nursing program and I did a 6week micro lab during the summer between classes 3 classes before graduation. It was just fine!!! I did the micro class ahead of time tho but it wasnt awful. I think if you take it during the summer take the course for the full time. It will help and get a good professor that can explain and actually be hands on. AVOID SOUTH CAMPUS unless its Acurio... At least that has been my experience.

Thanks for the fast reply! I plan on going to Central (ive heard not so good things) or North. If I could do what you did, I'd be golden, I'll cross my fingers and attempt to call someone in the Health Science department, although, I hear they barely know anything either sometimes lol. How do you like being a nurse?

Those requirements have been on the website all year...They had the CHM already as a req. and then the added Micro...I did see that in Jan. It doesnt show CHM but it is a prereq. for micro. (the new green page is not as clear in showing chm as the old page they had...it was in red print) I have a friend in a similar situation but she had problems with financial aid. She was looking into taking CHM now in the fall at FAU since CHM is not a requirement for Micro at FAU. Then taking CHM at BC. But FAU requires biology for Micro ...not sure if you have that. But her cut off date is Jan.

When is the application due for Aug. 2014? That seems a while away and fortunately, they seem to have start dates several times a year. And the new page doesnt show exact dates? It shows open ended...So I would think you would complete your micro in may and immediately be ready to submit your full application and testing! I would try and get your hesi done prior to starting micro. Maybe right after you finish Ant. 2.

Im taking Micro at north in the fall. Ive heard great things. I took CHM online and it was fine and the lab I took at North. I had an awesome older teacher!! I didnt see any at South that looked any good. I did hear a couple teachers at central had been good but I dont know their names.

If you take CHM in the fall you can take Micro in the Spring and have enough time to submit your application. You should have plenty of time to fit in those classes way before the deadline for 2014!

Ive checked the website again under broward.edu/nursing and clicked FAQ's and under one of the tabs when can i apply the answer was (for August anyway)

March 1 - May 15​. I'm just worried that if I take the Micro in the summer the term is from May-August 8th and the cutoff for the application is at the beginning which sucks. The only thing that would help is if they extended it. Good advise about the Hesi, I'm going to get the study books and get an early head start as the they seem to really depend on the highest possible scores. My pre-req grades are good so far, only my A&P I grades worry me as I got C's in lecture and lab. A&P II were B's but still... CHM im taking this winter, with all the HIV etc courses that are needed to apply. If I could take CHM now I totally would but they told me I had to do gen ed math first.

you only need 0024 prior according to the chm prereq. I would TRY to get that done this semester that is about to start in fall. I would also try and get into micro in the winter instead of summer. That way you can meet those deadlines. You really need to have a strong teacher for CHM if you havent done higher math but they do teach you how to do the math. It wasnt hard. Otherwise, if you dont have that 0024 then you just apply for a later admission. There is still one July to Sept. You have time...dont rush. At least they have several start dates. Im planning on a different school but they only have one application date a year!

I cant imagine if you havent finished that 0024 you will have time to fit in MAC1105 or higher. That link you sent says you have to finish area 5 of math...it is one of these...

The advisor signed me up for pre- stat, then chm in winter with statistics and them micro in the summer. thanks for the PM, I cant respond on there yet as i havent met the post requirements apparently. Geez you get pre reqs on here too, lol

Hey everyone, GOOD NEWS ! I decided to call the nursing dept at Central the other day to ask about the HESI six month waiting period to retake the test...the lady said they aren't doing that anymore and you can retake it at anytime...here comes the good part, there is no deadline anymore to apply. The program is open ended so until it fills up, thats when they stop the application. I asked if we could apply with courses in progress and she said NO. I have to wait until December 17th, 2013 for the grades to post for my Micro grades and then submit the application like right after that to start in january. I have been trying soooo hard to get into Nova for winter also but they put people on a waiting list that have courses in progress. Some people say I will get in because its private and they want your money but I hope I get in somewhere!!! At this point Ive been in school so long doing these stupid pre reqs that they keep changing and I am obviously getting nowhere!!!!!

Just found out last week that they took away the Micro requirement for applying, you just have to do it before graduation like before so yay! Taking my math and Chm next semester then applying for May!

Any August nursing students out there?! If so when are you guys gonna do your hesi, background check, then apply? I'm so nervous!
