U.S.A. Florida

Published

I graduated with a BSN from an NYC college 1 yr ago and am still unemployed. I've tried every hospital, nursing home and hole in the wall to get a job in NY but unless you know someone You will be working as a receptionist like I am if you are lucky. so, my question, are THERE ANY JOBS FOR A NEW GRAD IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA????

I would move to any part of the state!!!!

there is no hope for NY. I got the message after 1000+ NO's from NY.

Have you tried Florida Hospitals?? They have several hospitals in Central Fl.

I am still in LPN school but we have been told that FL Hosp. is trying to go straight RN or above.

I agree. Florida hospital does hire new grads, BSN and ASN. But it is pretty competitive. My floor hired about 6 new grads in the last 3 months. I believe atleast 1/2 had BSNs. There was a rumor that Fl. Hospital is only hiring BSN level nurses but obviously this is not true.

Good luck.

thanks!!!!! if anyone knows of anyplace willing to hire a new grad. PLEASE let me know. Willing to do homecare!!!!!!

I am a new grad and have interviewed at 3 hospitals in Northeast Florida in the last week. All of them said they don't have a problem hiring new grads! I must admit, this is not what I was expecting, I am pleasantly surprised!:nurse:

i have a friend who's a new grad and she just got hired at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital

Specializes in Surgical/ Peds ER.

I put in an application for an RN position a day letter she emailed me then next day called me two days later had my interview and she hired me on the spot at the interview so I'll say it just depends on where your looking for me first job I've really applied for and Bam I got in. This is a hospital in North FL I've read in other places not the same case best wishes though!

Not here in South Florida. I have been unemployed since October. All the hospitals down here want experience. It's hit or miss if you get something. I would apply first and wait till your offered employment before you move all the way down here.

Since you live in the city, have you looked into Albany? I am from there and they are hiring new Grads.

Specializes in Critical care, nursing education.

Two hospitals in central FL you may want to consider is Lakeland Regional Medical Center (in Lakeland) 850 beds and they hire new grads, BSN preferred, and Winterhaven Hospital (Winterhaven) is a Magnet hospital also preferring BSN.

As a side note, if you haven't been practicing for a year since graduation, that could be a problem.

Specializes in PCU, Step/Down.

university community hospital in tampa, fl at fletcher avenue is always hiring new graduates. they take forever to call back so what i do is apply online and then call them a few days later. the human resource number is (813) 615-7290. i have even applied and gone there in person asking to follow up on my app and they have given me an "on the spot interview." i think nowadays it takes being a little more aggressive than most to get your foot in the door. many of times when they see you are motivated and qualified, the hr rep wants to help you and remembers your name. the hr recruiter used to be ms. ******* and we got to know each other on a first name basis, but she is now a new rn grad from a local school and is no longer the hr recruiter. :clown:

Whatever you do don't bother with Miami. I'm here and I've been out looking for work anwhere and there is NOTHING. I've heard about some places in TX having new grad openings.

Yeah, I also live in Miami and recently graduated from school in December. I plan to take my boards in early March. It has been extremely disappointing this whole "job situation." I work as an ICU tech in a nearby hospital and was "promised" a job by my boss. I come to find out now...After putting ALL my eggs in that basket....that she really can't come through. HR has scholars that take precedence over employees, etc.

Anger is an understatement for what I am feeling. Unless there is a contract in front of me that I am signing, I wouldn't believe even God's promise for a job. And now that I'm beginning to look at other places for employment, NO ONE is hiring new grads. This whole process is disheartening to say the least.
