Hello Everyone!

I'm getting this forum started early for those who are applying to the UF College of Nursing's Accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program!

Feel free to get the discussion going... How do you stand among others (GRE, GPA, etc)? Go Gators! :)

Hi everyone! I'll be submitting my application for this program soon. So glad there's a thread to connect all of us. Hoping we all get to meet soon! ;)

Hey y'all!

So exciting to be posting to this thread! I have lurked...to the point of stalk... so many threads in the past few years and am just now registering/commenting on allnurses! :nurse: I too plan on applying to the 2015 ABSN class despite my (most likely) very slim chances of getting in. After reading all of these threads in the past it can become quite discouraging reading that a lot of applicants have 3.8+ GPAs and years of experience. Personally, I just graduated from UF with my BS in Health Education. Sadly- my GPA in my last 60 credits barley cracked a 3.0 :banghead:. I'm 19 at the moment and just now understanding that GPAs can be haunting... so I'm more than ready to start taking my studies more seriously than I have in the past. I'm just hoping UF gives me a second chance:whistling: I have some experience within the community, volunteer work/shadowing, and completed my internship with American Red Cross. I'm also taking the CHES exam next week to become a Certified Health Education Specialist. I'm hoping that once I take the GRE I will be able to do an OUTSTANDING job to balance the low GPA ;)

Best wishes to all! & GOOOOO GATORS!!! :)

Ya'll are making me nervous. So far it seems as if everyone has a pretty good GPA. My undergrad ( Psychology) is a 3.2, however, it was based on the 94-100 scale not the 90-100 scale so it would have been a little higher. I have my LPN and am currently working as a nurse so I'm really hoping that counteracts my GPA. I got a 4.0 in nursing school and I was top in my class. I also currently work for UF. So, I'm really hoping they don't just look at GPA. I haven't taken the GRE yet. I am taking it November 30th ( I know, last minute) but they should receive the results in time. Plus, you just have to write them in on application. Don't know how accurate it is but my friend works with a few who recently graduated from this program and they said they graduated with a class of like 75 people.

Hey everyone! Glad there is a thread posted. I should be submitting my application by the end of the week or beginning of next week. Good luck to everyone :)

Took the GRE this morning. Improved my score from last year...not as much as I would've liked though. Will be putting my app in the mail next week. Good luck everyone! :)

Hey yall. I'm in the program now. I had a 3.52 GPA undergrad from UF, I think a 3.2 nursing pre-rec GPA, 1.5 years experience in a med/surg office with direct patient care, 8 years experience serving/managing/bartending, don't remember my GRE but I know my math was super high and my reading was one point below the minimum. I had great letters of rec from two doctors I worked for, one who is courtesy faculty at UF, both part of the UF/Gville community for 40+ years. I was accepted to the program and currently attending. I know of a few classmates who petitioned getting in. If you have any questions feel free to message/comment and I am happy to help.

Thanks for posting to this thread and offering your help. I will be sending my application for the 2015 Accelerated Nursing program this week and I have to admit I'm beyond nervous. To become a nurse is all I have ever wanted to be and I honestly feel that I have done everything in my power to be a strong applicant. Yet , I feel like my best is not enough and its emotionally straining at times. I have been staying prayed up and remaining optimistic never the less. I recently graduated this summer majoring in psychology with a cumulative GPA of 3.34. I completed all my nursing prerequisites my sophomore year with a 3.3 cumulative GPA. My GRE scores barely made the minimum requirement; 155 verbal and 146 quantitative. I have healthcare experience shadowing a CRNA and a private practice Family Medicine doctor, did research with my university's College of Medicine, and countless volunteer work within the healthcare field. However, my recommendation came from my Academic advisor and co worker ( I fear that these recommendation might not be enough).

That really gives me a sense of hope! I am very nervous about my GRE score and my nursing pre-rec GPA. I truly pray that I can get in for this summer program!!

Do you have any understanding on how the nursing committee evaluate their prospective student's application?

Dropped my app in the mail today! Good luck, everyone! Fingers crossed.

Good Morning My Future Nurses !

I had to admit after reading all of these posts I was very nervous about my chances of getting into this program. I was so nervous that I decided to email Mr. Foote and bombard him with tons of questions . Even though it's a busy time in the semester he offer that I call him to discuss my questions. I was told that application is evaluated in its entirety and no individual component of the application is weighed heavier than the other. Also, each application pool is different so it hard to know your chances of being admitted. So to everyone on here don't rack your brain comparing yourself to pervious or current applicant. Just pray and remain relentlessly optimistic.

If your still nervous about this whole process I recommend speaking with Mr. Kenneth Foote, [email protected] or 352-273-6383. Speaking with him was very helpful for me. Mr. Foote was kind, helpful, and understanding of my anxiety about the admission process. I have never had such an amazing experience with a nursing admission coordinator. If he is any reflection of the nursing program than UF is definitely the place I want to become a nurse. Now I'm even more excited about the possibility of becoming a part of this program !!!!

Good luck to everyone ;)
