trying to get into flight nurse field

  1. Hi, I am an RN with 7-8 years of ICU experience including Medical, Surgical, Neuro and Trauma ICU. I have ACLS, BCLS, TNCC and working on my CCRN. I have been trying to get into the flight nursing field for a little while with little success. Any pointers?? I will be moving out to Colorado shortly so I am looking for the Western part of the US. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Be flexible and open minded, you may not get the high priority job but you will get the experience.
Try your local little airports, call them and ask if they have a medical transport service there.
Having Paramedic status too really helps, your local ambulance service will probably be happy to have you as a volunteer and may even put you through medic school.
This in reality might not be your thing or you may just love it.
I am an RN, was a medic first and do critical care nursing, flight nursing, work in
a nursing home for agency and traveled as a nurse for a year, each is a different kind of challenge. Still smiling after all those years.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to the bulletin boards. I just wanted to thank everybody who has taken the time to reply to my posting, I have taken note of all of your advice and am at present starting to study for my CCRN.
    Thanks.
