What are you really good at?

I'll be wrapping up my 10 week hospital orientation in about 3 weeks. I've worked with about 4 different preceptors. Each one of them has commented that my head to toe assessments are amazing. Most people also really like my documentation. I have to admit I'm thorough. I can't think of a time in my nursing career when so many people have raved about any of my skills. Makes me feel good!

This isn't a thread to brag, but tell me what you're really good at. Nothing wrong with patting yourself on the back for a job well done!!

Specializes in Medical Oncology, Alzheimer/dementia.

I'm glad I started this thread, you guys are awesome! We could start a thread about what do you feel you suck at, but this is so much better. I love hearing you all talk about what you're good at. Confidence makes a world of difference, whether we're newbies, old school or somewhere in between.

Specializes in Neuroscience/Brain and Stroke.

IV's, urinary caths, and staying calm.

Specializes in Med/Surg,Cardiac.

I'm good at IVs on (most) days. I guess it's obvious when I'm called on to float to ER just for that purpose.

I'm pretty sure I'm the queen of asking questions. I love asking my patients questions while teaching. How do you teach someone without knowing what they know already? And I ask my charge a lot of questions, especially since she is amazing at reading EKGs and seeing something I may have missed.

Love this thread btw. I'm good at reading allnurses as well :-)

Specializes in OB.

Trouble reaching for a cervix that's in China, call me....Think you feel toes, call me....can't place your IUPC, call me...I'm every co-workers back-up if needed....and every man's envy.....lololol

Specializes in ER, OR, Cardiac ICU.

I'm good at making VERY realistic poop from a combination of wet toilet paper and a few drops of betadine. Drop it in a bed pan and leave it at the nurses station....not very professional but it's what I'm good at :)

I would love to work with somebody like you! I love you already!! Lol

Personally, I think trading some professionalism for a great sense of humor is worth it :)

Specializes in General.

I was good at no pain direct IV shot. That was what made me busy by IV request in the past.

Out of nursing I was good at troubleshooting PC system and program. Got call for help at almost everyday from several floor.

Don't do it anymore for years as now I'm in the office of nursing committee. :(

Specializes in Rehab, critical care.

Documentation, too. I have had another nurse on the next shift comment on how thorough it is. My critical thinking, and thorough assessments are also my strong points. I know what my patients' need, and how to achieve it :).

Weak point (since it's always valuable to know weaker areas): IV starts. Not enough experience with IV starts yet to be really good at them since most of our patients have central lines, but I try to start them whenever the opportunity comes up, getting better.

Specializes in Oncology.

I can calm the most difficult patients.

I know when something is "not quite right" and I've always been right so far.

I have the strength of an ox for a 100 pound person ha!

Specializes in Oncology.

Everyone tells me my shots don't hurt either, and my charting has been picked out by all my bosses as "superior" hahaha.

Specializes in NICU, telemetry.

I have also been told that I have great documentation by a lot of people. Really, I am just very thorough and anal. I have also been told that I'm good at keeping a clear head when things get hectic.
