Well, finished my 1st 3rd-shift last night...

I was afraid I'd be dragging by the time midnight hit, but I did fine all night. I worked 7p-7:30a and when I got home, I ate and had no problems falling asleep and staying asleep all day. Hopefully tonight will be the same. I work tonight and Tuesday night as well.

I worked 12 hr. nights for years (non-nursing). It's not so bad, once you get used to it.

So do you work three days a week and have four days off? The definite advantage to working 12's - more days off!!

I'll be going to nights when I get out of orientation in November. Glad to know it's not so bad!

I love nights its a little slower paced so I have more time to learn new things from more experienced nurses. - fewer procedures thought.

I am also a new night nurse and I love it. It may be challenging taking care of more patients ( we can have up to 6) but I find I have more time to actually read the chart since I am not fighting everyone for it. I find that I find out more information about what is really going on with my patients. good luck to you. I think you'll find that once you get used to sleeping in the day time that you will like what your doing.

I work 5p-5a myself. The first week was the hardest. After that is was "hello Mr. Sandmann" when I walked in my front door at 6am. Our schedule is never the same. 3 on 3 0ff, 4 on 1 off...yadayadayada...and so it goes. I have four days off this week this being my first night off, and I am wide freaking awake. Went to sleep this morn around 7 and up at 11 to take kids school shopping. Still can't get any sleep. Now I don't think I could ever work days again, i'm too used to it...lol Kids should be up in an hour getting ready for the 1st day of school (my son is officially a Senior today) :yelclap: & will be shocked to see me still up. So goes the life of the night shift. I find out more things at night myself when reading charts after med pass.

Definetly. I did the same thing in non-nursing of course, and got used to it quickly. Congrats by the way and good luck.
