well, it's been 9 months of blood, sweat, and tears (and some urine, feces and emesis, but those weren't mine!) what can i say about being a rn? if i thought school was difficult, being a nurse is 100x harder. some days i come home feeling like i made a difference. other days i cry. i began grinding my teeth and can make it 12 hours without food or a potty break.

all i know is that i want to be an l&d nurse. i did my 9 months in med-surg. it wasn't as awful as i thought it would be, but it wasn't great either. i'd like to get a new position in june (13 months after starting my position). how soon is a good time to start applying for june hire?

does anyone have any tips and or tricks for how to not get lost in the new grad application shuffle? also, am i even considered an experienced nurse, or since it hasn't been a full year yet, am i still a new grad?

tia for any help you guys can give me, and hold on to those who are even newer than me. it hasn't gotten great yet, in month 9, but i do want to bang my head against a wall much less!

Yes, you are Definitely still a new grad. There are hospitals that consider anything less than 2yrs as being a new grad. Sorry.

Thank you for the response. Does this mean I should only apply for new grad L&D positions? I was under the understanding that the 1 year mark was the magic number defining whether or not I apply for that?

Apply NOW!!! I know some hospitals are accepting nursing residency program application that starts in July now. You are not a new grad, you have 9 months of experience and that's better than people just coming out of college. Don't sell yourself short!

It's best to call the recruitment office and ask them what you need to do. That's what I would do if it were me.

I can tell you that if you were applying at my hospital with 9 months exp, they would hire you under new grad status. I'm sure there are other places that will hire you with experience.....just call and ask. :)
