My first job rejection!

I got the dreaded "we have decided to pursue candidates whose skills and abilities more closely align with our current needs" email. This was my dream job!! I know there are many factors that play into my rejection, for example, I am a new grad who has not taken the NCLEX yet, however I felt I did great in the interview, I shadowed the unit, sent thank you's to HR and nurse manager, and I think my resume and cover letter are great!! I am bummed!

I know how you feel the same thing happened to me. Even though I knew, going in, it would be a long shot I still held out hope. Have a good cry it did me good:hug: Also, I responded to the rejection email thanking them again for the opportunity to interview and reiterated how interested I was in working for that hospital and how their mission is one that I strongly believe in. I also said something like "in the future if there is a position that would more closely fit my skills please keep me in mind" Now I am still looking for a full time job so I don't know if that email helped at all but I felt it couldn't hurt if the hospital has another position open up. Take some classes (ACLS, PALS, EKG etc) and don't be afraid to apply to the hospital again. The classes/additional certifications may show the hospital how dedicated you are to a career in nursing and continuing your education and they may call you for an interview instead of just saying "we interviewed this candidate before and her resume looks the same" and putting you in the rejection pile. Again I am a recent grad still looking for a full time hospital job but these are some tips and hints I received from other nurses and instructors. Best of luck and hang in there!

A lot of places here won't consider you until you take your boards and passed. You can always thank them and ask for any tips and advice they can give you for future interviews.

Hang in there. Too many nurses are getting these letters. Do like MVLRN said and inquire about what you might do different in the future to improve your chances.

I got that e-mail a couple of weeks ago after interviewing for my dream job. It sucks, I know. Definetely don't stop applying to that hospital (if that's where you want to be) since different managers are looking for different things and you could easily get another interview. Good luck!

Congratulations on receiving your first rejection letter. I guess that means you're now officially a reject! Don't feel bad... I quite suspect that most of us are... mostly because most of us receive the same kind of letter, no matter what field we try to get into, at some point in our job hunt. Believe me... I'm a reject too...probably more than a few times over by now, and I haven't even started NS yet!

If it makes you feel any better, I applied at tons of places (about 60 positions)....only to get rejected at all of them. As a matter of fact, I worked as a Nurse Intern for 2 years at this huge popular hospital...and I even got rejected from THEM! (I cried I was so upset) and thanks to God and posting my resume on Monster got me my GN ICU position. (They called ME! How cool is that!) So expect tons of rejections!! All I was looking for was that one YES. Luckily I did.

It is a huge bummer! I got about 75 rejections before I heard that YES. In fact, I'm STILL getting rejected from jobs I applied to as long ago as February!

At least the OP got a rejection letter. In my job market, rejection is usually marked by silence.

Atleast you GOT a response.

I was told to wait by the phone after my interview because they were going to call me the next day. I waited 2 days and they never even called. I had to call myself to hear that I was rejected. Hurray..........

Oh, and don't get me started on the numerous rejection emails I've gotten. And I have a kick ass resume, too.

Nursing shortage.......... LOAD OF CRAP.
