Finding a Job as a New RN

Hi Everyone-

Here is my question. I Just moved down to the Houston area from Pennsylvania, where I had a job as a RN and did a 12 week orientation in a hostpital. Before that I worked for 2 years as a student nurse aide.
My problem is that with moving, no one seems to want to hire a new RN!!
Has anyone else had problems with this, or any solutions?
I have applied to many places and many different jobs, even ones that I didnt want that much but were more suited to my experience level. (I've done Peds nursing only, but applied for regular med/surg jobs as well)
I've had 2 interviews, one in a doctors office which I dont think went well, and another for a peds home health agency which went great! That interview was last week and I think I will get that job, but in the meantime, I wanted to write this post.
Hopefully I get this new job but in the off chance that I dont, any ideas??

Thanks!
Meghan

Good luck Meghan! I hope you get that job! :O) It does seem to be much more difficult to get a non-bedside nursing job than hospital nursing. You're not willing to get a job in the hospital, is that what I'm reading?

Oh no- I would *love* a hospital job, actually, I would love anything dealing with Pediatrics!
Its just hard to find a job! No employer seems to call me back- maybe I just moved to the area at the wrong time :/ Expecially right after the hurricane hit..

But im hopeful that I will get this job, and hopefully will find out tomorrow or Tuesday!

Are you calling to follow up on your applications?
How are you doing your applications? Are you just sending them in and then waiting?

Normally I call the hospital and ask to speak with a recruiter. I explain what I am looking for (I did this as a new grad too.) and mention that I saw a few of these positions open on the web site for jobs. Usually they invite me to fax or send over a resume.

Other option is to fill out the stuff, and then call maybe 3-4 days later to ask about the status of your application, and just ask if they need any further information from you...

If you want hospital, I think you can get it, and it may be that the hiring engine at a hospital is not as quick or organized as the outside places which are going to be a bit smaller.

Good Luck.
